David Moyes is set to begin work as Manchester United manager next week against the backdrop of further speculation about a return for former golden boy Cristiano Ronaldo.

It has been suggested for weeks now that United believe they can lure Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, where he left in 2009 for Real Madrid in a world record £80million deal.

And a report in Spanish newspaper El Pais today claimed a meeting would be taking place between United officials and Ronaldo "in the next few days" to see if there is any likelihood of a transfer being completed. United have not commented on the report.

Looks like both RM & ManU want to make a big signing, but also ready to offload a big player too. Interesting speculations...

Honestly if it came to a choice between him and Bale I would choose him any day. He can also slot in at CF if needed be. More importantly we can continue with our 4-2-3-1 formation and if the Callejon to Napoli rumour are true the that would leave Jese/Isco as back up there as well as for Ronaldo which means they will get plenty of playing time.

I think it is a choice between Suarez and Cavani. Ancelloti prefers Suarez and Chelsea prefer Cavani - I think these deals look plausible.

According to Cadena COPE, Bale's agent was apparently in Madrid yesterday. He met with general manager Jose Angel Sanchez. His agent said Bale has wanted to play for Real Madrid since he was a child. He wants to play with Ronaldo.

However signing him is difficult. It could apparently take until the end of the transfer window to negotiate.

Why Sarabia tho?
Hasn't really done anything in Getafe to even be given a second thought.

I think sarabia will do quite well in a team with better players, more technical players, i think thats why he performs better then more famililer and technical players at national teams.

I also think having isco, jese, morata we dont really need another top top top backup.

Matic, Fernando and Luis Gustavo are the 3 DM's Ancelotti is looking at, according to COPE.

Matuidi would be a better option. One of the best pure DM's around

According to AS, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wants 100m Euros for Bale and the first offer from Real Madrid will be Coentrao, Higuain and 60m Euros.

Higuain currently has an offer from Napoli.

According to El Confidencial, Ancelotti doesn't want to make a lot of changes. He wants to sign around 3 players.

Perez has been discussing with the club over the past few days and the primary objective is to sign Bale. Ancelotti has said yes to signing Bale.

Ancelotti knows if Bale arrives, Di Maria could be sold, due to his poor performances.

Perez wants around 30m Euros to sell Higuain. Napoli and Arsenal are the 2 teams who are mostly interested in him.

Currently there are no plans to strengthen the forward position, because the transfer window doesn't end for a long time.

Coentrao could leave and a replacement would be bought. However apparently the replacement would be a backup to Marcelo.

A midfielder could be signed, could be Kondogbia.

Alonso is injured, so until he recovers, Modric would play.

Real Madrid are seen as in the market for a new midfielder, with reports spread between Geoffrey Kondogbia, Thiago Alcantara and Asier Illarramendi.

It is understood that new Coach Carlo Ancelotti has requested that the club strengthen in central midfield ahead of the new season.

AS report that he has handed a list of possible recruitments to President Florentino Perez and general manager Jose Angel Sanchez, headed by Real Sociedad’s Illarramendi.

Marca, however, believe that Madrid are looking to move for Sevilla’s young star Kondogbia and that negotiations over a proposed €9m deal are already advanced enough that a deal could be concluded by next week.

Cadena Ser back up AS’ claims that Los Blancos want Illarramendi, but add that they are also keen on stepping up previously thought interest in Barcelona’s Thiago, whose current buyout clause of €18m is attracting a lot of interest.

Callejon close to signing for Napoli, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Bale deal seems a way too much for me, max of 45mil Euros is more than enough for Bale, the guy has yet to win a trophy(team or individual, bar the PL player of the year) or prove himself in the CL.

Even so, we got Isco, Ozil, Jese, Ronaldo and probably Di Maria, Kaka and Callejon

Out of Geoffrey Kondogbia, Thiago Alcantara and Asier Illarramendi I would like us to get Illarramendi.

Linked with ricardo rodriguez as coentrao replacement, i once was researching him, watched him play a game. he is decent, not madrid quality though.

coentrao is horrible attacking wise! i used to think differently when he was at benfica, but his two years in madrid were simply horrible in attacking sense! can't cross, isn't too fast, cant cut in, nothing!! lol Schmelzer is like 5 times better

Mediaset apparently saying Ancelotti wants to keep Higuain.

It'd do more harm than good.
Higuain has expressed his desire to leave and the club should respect it.

Other candidates for midfield according to AS are Vidal, Gundogan, Paulinho, Pirlo and Verratti.

what with all these midfield rumors?
It would make sense if there was even remotely some speculation/rumors of our own mid leaving.

Thiago as a DM or deeplying playmaker? Not gonna happen and doesn't work. But wouldn't mind to have Thiago instead of Modric and Alonso and Illaramendi to rotate on other position.

Hihi, I agree Thiago as DM won't work and won't happen, but your proposal is probably just as bad. Illaramendi only plays at DM, he is not a DM, he is a deep lying playmaker - meaning he is not the best defensively. And he certainly isn't an upgrade on Alonso, not yet, which is the DM (DLP) we are currently bitching about not being mobile/fast enough to cover us on defence.

Also, the man crush on Thiago is somewhat understandable due to his recent performances, but he is quite far from being a better player than Modric. Now, I like the guy, but if you think about it Thiago is Barca's 5th-6th best midfielder and he is largely unproven in all senior competitions. And yet again, I refer you to our past: when did we ever play unproven youngsters in key positions? I think a lot of you guys that propose we "win with kids" will be massively disappointed when next season our only young starter is actually the already partly proven Varane, and even that is not a given.
