I can understand why some wouldn't. He has had some issues in the last two years. But he's just too good to not give it a shot. He is still the best english player, and he is the total package and would fit in perfectly with our system.

For me on my scale on how much I gaf on a striker we sign, its 55% Rooney, 40% jovetic, 5% Higuain, 0% everyone else

I don't buy that "48 hrs" story for a second. Last summer inoculated me to all football reports involving that phrase.

Frankly what I would like to see is Wenger jet into Italy, go to Juve's offices with a pile of cash, and say "I don't want the players you want to sell. I want the player you don't want to sell. Give me Arturo Vidal." And then once he's got Vidal, he'll swing by Fiorentina, drop some cash in their laps, and grab Jovetic by the scruff of the neck as well.

... oh, sorry, I think I was still dreaming.

For what it's worth, apparently some Slovakian guy named Daniel Matoj, @BratislavaBugle on Twitter (with a protected account, but some decent Arsenal folks among his followers) also claims Arsenal are close to announcing a big deal.

But even just relating that information makes me feel like I'm stirring a pot of nonsense. Unclean, unclean ...

The biggest doubt for me isn't the source, but the idea that we have a record breaking deal wrapped up in secrecy and ready to announce. It's next to impossible to keep any deal under wraps, and the bigger the deal, the more likely you are to hear something. Yet, we've heard nothing.

Maybe it's just Wenger signing a new contract.

That's a good take, Jay. I also wonder if maybe there are some legs to a story that already got some traction in the press and maybe just isn't being reported heavily right now - e.g. the Jovetic stuff which seems to have gone a little cool in the last couple weeks. (On Sky Bet, for instance, Arsenal are still the favorites to get Bon Jovi, last I checked.)
