Well said.El Gunner wrote:Agree with you, mate. Plus, it would stop him from going to City or United, who seem very interested. There will be some imbalance in the midfield, but for top players like Cesc, teams adapt and adjust their tactics to get the best of out them.
True it would limit Wilshere's development as an attacking midfielder, but Cesc is simply better and more proven as an advanced midfielder. Wilshere has been playing his role very well these past couple of years and I don't see how his effectiveness will be limited in his B2B role.
As much as I love Jack, we need to get away this mentality of focusing on player development and get the best players possible if we can. Cesc is a gem of a talent, and if we let him head to a PL rival, he will be a huge pain in the ass for years to come.

I disagree with Jay and Mole...
I think this season when Jacky was playing further forward (CAM) our whole midfield was imbalanced. Jacky has the resolve, grind, determination, vision to become a very good deep-lying central midfielder.
As for Cesc, yes. He's only role that work for him is as a CAM. So if we get Cesc, I don't see it as a major problem regarding imbalance in our midfield. Cesc is quality and we need quality goddammit.

may be.. Wenger has said that he is the complete midfielder and doesnt want him to be a pure offensive player..El Gunner wrote:Agree with you, mate. In this current set up, Rosicky despite being how good he has been, is keeping the spot for Wilshere. Wilshere showed us how good he can be playing an advanced role. He will probably take over there when he is back.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
The cesc dream is over. Imo. Even if he comes back I don't think he will be the same player. Its been two years, a lot can happen in that time. Players rarely leave clubs and pick up right where they left off when they come back. It would be nice to have him back if we have him for little in a year or two, but if not then its not worth breaking the bank for him and having him be our only big signing. He left and I don't think bringing him back is worth giving up on Wilshere in an advanced role which he will never be able to do if cesc comes back.
Striker is most important. Absolutely desperately need one. We defended well this season and created enough, but our lack of being able to capitalize on chances always came back to haunt us later in games by letting teams stay in the game far too often.

Yet he lacks the discipline, defensive skills and physique to play deep in midfield on a long-term basis without adequate protection. He can cover ground and make some tackles, but he doesn't like staying deep and defensively he's well behind Ramsey and Arteta.
Also, consider what Wilshere's strongest assets are: his acceleration and ball control. Those attributes are best used in a role that allows him to always look forward and influence play in the final third and not in a deep-lying role.
If we want to get the best out of him, we need to give him freedom to attack.

We need quality up front, not in midfield. We've already got it in midfield.

He played Wilshere in the most advanced midfield role and move Cazorla to the flank just so he could do so. Actions speak louder than words.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I personally think Wilshere isn't good enough defensively to be CM long term and is much better suited at AM.
No coincidence at all you looked a lot more solid and cohesive as a team once Ramsey was there instead with Cazorla on the left and Rosicky behind Giroud.
Its not just about Wilshere himself for me, its about the domino effect it has on the whole team.
Arteta and Ramsey are a fantastic security field for the back 4 allowing Walcott, Cazorla, Wilshere and who ever the new striker is to make a devastating balanced outfit.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
We don't need Cesc (or another AM) anymore, and we sure as hell can't afford to pay 20-25mio for a luxury signing.
Let's stick to our priorities which are signing Jovetic, an alternative to Arteta (Kondogbia, McCarthy, Inler), an experienced GK (Julio Cesar) as 2nd choice and possibly another CF (Higuain, Rooney, Villa).

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Our midfield is good, but I honestly just cannot say that it is top quality.
If Cesc is available I think we should get him because he is just that good a midfielder which will add more to the team. I agree that we need to prioritise in the striking department and defensive department (including DM) rather than the midfield, but ALL I'm saying is that if Cesc is available (and to add he'd not cost us that much) I think we should go for him. He was arguably the best midfielder/player in the league before he left, and I think he has still got it in him.

Grenier has decided to come to Arsenal. Whether Arsenal will pay the fee remains a question... his latest interview made it abundantly clear.

Wilshere is v.overrated to be honest. All he has is a strong determination and some decent pace. Just a little ball control. That being said. Cesc can create goals and thsts what arsenal need. If the choice comes to bench jack and win trophies I would gladly take it.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Wilshere has proven nothing in his career, is a crock and Arsenal have played better without him.
Cex is a world class player and will provide the productivity Arsenal have lacked this season.
It's a no brainer, pride aside.

I don't get the obsession with Cesc... we already have 3 AM's, how many do we need?

3 AM's wtf? Name them.
Cex provides 15-20 goals per season which every top club needs. And racks up assists like no other.

Wilshere, Rosicky and Cazorla.
Cesc is better than all of them. No question about that. At the same time, that wouldn't justify signing him. It's just not an area we need to strengthen.

The ideal scenario for me is that Cesc stays at Barcelona for another year. We spend that 25m on Lars. Buy Cesc next year.

Huh? Cazorla, Wilshere and Rosicky.
We already have 3 players who reach 15-20 goals per season and as many assists, what we need is NOT to sign someone who ruins a system that has clearly worked just to please fanboys.

Wild card is going to have operation in summer ? Will he be back firing us to the title ?
As far as the team balance is concerned it can be manipulated.
