Some shocking teams being named here.

If there's a forward deserving to be here it's Mandzukic.

I mean the guy instantly benched Gomez and transformed Bayern's game and style.

The way he's pressing and closing up spaces, exploiting weaknesses and harassing defenders, the way he links-up with the entire team is just amazing.

He's a tremendous striker, yet vastly underrated. The epitome of modern forward.

Signing of the year in my opinion.

You're probably right but I think my team has a decent enough balance and it was more about who I though played well rather than actual position or tactics.

Dude is clumsy as heck, in the tackle and with ball.

I like him at CB actually. He is kinda clumsy yeah but he's played well in the CL this year so he deserves credit for that.

The question is if not Dante, than who? After Silva, there's a definite lack of quality in Europe atm in the CB position.

He's this years Ivanovic. Decent player but nothing special.

He's playing in a terrific system where every single player works their arse off starting upfront with Mandzukic to the two very best fullbacks in the World. Then you have the two wingers equally as hardworking with Robben playing RB at times and Ribery even making last man challenges. As if that's not enough, 2 physical powerhouses and athletic freaks in Schweinsteiger & Javi Martinez are working in perfect tandem, winning tackles, pressing players & dominating aerially serving as protection. And to then top that all off he has Manuel freaking Neuer behind him.

That's pretty much a heavenly situation for any CB. If he was rightly sent off for that atrocious and unforgivable challenge last night on top of already conceding the pen and Bayern went on to lose would he still be in all these TOTY's?

He's a solid player but I don't think he had a better campaign than the likes of Silva, Barzagli and Chiellini. And if we ignore this season and take overall talent into account I'd take Koscielny, Ramos & Varane over him as well.

Hell, I'm not even sure if he's the best CB on the team. Boateng was unreal in that game, particularly in the 2nd half. Abused Lewandowski.

I would include Varane or Ramos but GL would be all over my ass if I did lol

I actually agree with you btw.

Having said that I think overall in the CL he's preformed very well so he deserves recognition this season.

Dante had a worse game than the Hummels you all think is garbage.

If the ref did his job he would have been sent off.... not to mention the amount of times Lewa rolled him like he was an amateur scrub.

Actually its very hard to rate Dortmund and Bayerns CBs as individuals because of the amount of protection they both receive and most of the time teams don't get beyond their midfield.

I included Dante because he was the best CB on the best defense in the tourney, obviously it's not entirely down to him, but letting up 4 goals in the knockout stages (one of which was a pen in the final) and shutting out Barca and Juve over 4 matches is pretty solid

Also just because someone is in the team of the tourney doesn't have to mean you rate them as a star...although I'm hardly surprised GL can't see that distinction

Didn't see Dante shutting down anyone vs Juve or Barca.

Vs Juve all he had to do is clean up long balls vs guys who struggle holding the ball up. Bayerns front 4 pressed them into going long all game.

Barca was Javi Martinez applying pressur on Iniesta and with a lame Messi that's our own ball carrier. Fullbacks locked up our toothless wingers, the only space they gave us as they tucked in and allowed no balls in between them.

Much mor impressed with Cheillini, even if he played less games because of an earlier exit.

Yeah Chiellini etc had a earlier exit hence they are not featuring..besides that it is not about how good Dante is generally btw..it is about how well he performed in the tournament.

lol at shweini in the line up. He had a meh game in the final and Gundagon and Martinez both clearly has been better than him in the whole tournament.

and Varane was bad in the CL? he was the only one carrying our defense.
