As a German I always hate "Bayern Munich". It sends a shiver down my spine. 
Either you do both words German or both words English. Bayern München would be correct or you may as well say Bavaria Munich. Just need to complain about something since I'm German. 
Now that that's out of the way there can be friendly discussion.

Well, I guess a lack of umlauts prevents the not qwertz-keyboard owners from properly writing München, Müller etc, and they prolly got flak for writing Munchen while they don't understand it would be Muenchen, so the step to "Munich" is probably short. And for some reason it caught on everywhere in the media, too

I don't have umlaut on the keyboard but I have installed 'Germany Language' and I can pick it from the 'Language bar' from the taskbar and if I press ' [ ' on my EN qwerty keyboard, it appears ' ü ' .

In German keyboard layout, the "z" and "y" are transversed compared to the US keyboard.
