Manchester United insist Wayne Rooney is not for sale after it emerged the striker asked to leave Old Trafford for the second time in three years.

The 27-year-old ex-Everton forward told United boss Sir Alex Ferguson two weeks ago he felt the time was right to move after nine years at the club.

A spokesman for United would only say: "Wayne Rooney is not for sale."
The news emerged on the day Ferguson announced he would be retiring as manager at the end of the season.

Rooney has two more seasons left on a five-year contract he eventually signed after much wrangling in 2010.

Not sure if I'll get flamed, but I still see Rooney more in the Pirlo role, but because he can score goals with the best of them he's always been played out of what I view as his best position.

I think Sepi is saying that Moyes' imminent arrival has now removed any potential path to reconciliation between club and player, rather than suggesting it was Moyes' (potential) move that caused him to make his most recent reported request to leave.

Rooney is too similar to Benzema in what they do. Losing Higuain and getting Rooney would probably be a stupid idea.

Griezman to milan would be fantastic for them but I bet city, arsenal or some oil club will snatch him up and place him on the bench but milan are looking to build a great team for people wandering they could end up looking like this.

Last I heard Madrid were planning to sell both Benz and Higuain, so it's not as though there would be a conflict between Rooney and Benzema.
