Re: Top 5 Best Wingers
There's different types of wingers/players who play on the wing. Playmaker wingers like Silva, goalscoring ones like Ronaldo, Podolski, Hulk etc and direct ones like Navas.
So I guess this is direct wingers?

Re: Top 5 Best Wingers
Silva is not a winger. Thats like saying Ozil is a winger because he pushes out wide alot and CAN play out wide, but onviously prefers the middle. The rest of them all qualify.

Re: Top 5 Best Wingers
Silva isn't a traditional/direct/normal winger. He's a playmaker on the wing.
By winger I just mean he plays on the wing, not a direct/normal/traditional winger.

Ronaldo, Ribery, Reus, Bale (if he plays on the wing) and Muller
These are off the top of my head

Ronaldo isn't a winger either. If you can't count Silva in there then you can't count Ronlado.

Agree
For all time i'd add Figo of course . The category '' Winger '' is quite ambiguous nowadays many players who aren't '' traditionnal winger '' play on the wing with a different role

A winger doesn't just have to be a traditional winger. Wingers can have different roles.

Of course . i won't compare Valencia and Robben : both are wingers but one is more of a forward . Differents roles as you said so i kind of disagree with Robben rated higher as a winger than Valencia . He is clearly better , don't get me wrong but i'm just saying ARE we going to compare players with differents roles ?

This, but I am going to add Hazard to the list. I consider him a winger.

I'm not sure but I think the thread is about traditional wingers.

The lack of Navas and Susaeta here is putting me into clinical depression.

Re: Top 5 Best Wingers
Players who happen to play on the wing:
Müller, Ribéry, C. Ronaldo, Reus, Bale
Actual wingers:
Ribéry, Bale, Navas, Robben... TBH I'm stumped for more, pretty much all clubs play inside forwards there nowadays. Or are clubs I don't really follow. Or have shitty wingers.
This debate should probably die, and we should accept that people who'd have been strikers 10 years ago are playing on the wing now. And call them wingers.

No there aint.
There are just player who coaches happen to play there on paper, but on the field, not on the wing at all and therefore not a winger.

WRONG.
Average positions vs Mallorca and if you look at practically every game Madrid play he is always this central.
Also why is Robben being mentioned in this thread? he's a scrub now and not even relevant, Muller is a better winger than him and he's not even a winger
El Shaarawy wrote:Do you think Kuba can get into the top 10 wingers list?
Yes, easily.
Anyway i'll post mine later, just wanted to comment on some things.

You arguing with facts?
His average position in practically every game is central, these are not made up it is fact.
You have no argument

Re: Top 5 Best Wingers
Best wingers all time:
George Best (no one mentioning him makes me sad as hell), Ryan Giggs, Garrincha, Figo. The 5th spot is a tough one... of the ones i really remember watching throughout my life Id say Pires, Overmars, Kanchelskis, Ginola, Camoranesi (hardcore bias) C. Ronaldo at United, Messi when he played RWF, etc. Its hard because I truly believe there is a disctinction between true wingers and wide play makers, but thats another argument.
As an aside, could you in good conscience dub Ronaldinho as a winger? he played alot out wide on the left and cut inside, used his speed and tricks to take defenders on etc... but I dont feel like he is a winger... more than a few I have talked to consider him to be one

Cristiano Ronaldo hasnt played as a winger since his penultimate season at Man U.
Just because you lineup out there on the team sheet means nothing.
