March Madness
Discuss
IU will win it.
I don't watch basketball much so don't expect me to post in this thread, but I'll certainly keep an eye on the results. I decided this probably needs it's own thread now that it has started.

Re: March Madness
I'm watching some of the games now. There's been a few upsets 3 out of the 4 #5 seeds have lost. KSU #4 seed is losing by 18 to a 12.
I don't really care who wins since my team is banned from postseason, but I'm rooting for Louisville/Kansas I guess.

Re: March Madness
#15 seed Florida Gulf Coast upsetting #2 Georgetown was an awesome game. One of the best performances I've seen from a seed that low.

Re: March Madness
Michigan State taking on Duke, Michigan taking on Kansas.
Can't see either coming out of that round, but I hope State do at least.
Florida Gulf Coast got Florida next so yeah....that cinderella story is likely going to end there. Then again Georgetown was a cautionary tale.

Michigans got a good shot against Kansas I think. If I had to pick, I'd take them. Kansas has been kinda underwhelming up until the 2nd half of their last game. Michigan stumbled to close the season but have looked really solid since.
Louisville keeps playing like they did on Saturday, they won't be stopped.

Re: March Madness
Wow apparently no one cares about this
Louisville has been the most impressive team I've seen so far. They looked ridiculously good.
IU looked bad vs Temple, but pulled it out in the end. I hope they improve. They've got the potential but they can't play like they did vs Temple.
Khalif Wyatt is a tank though. Damn.
Not that I know anything about basketball

Yeah I watched that game. Wyatt was in a zone. Unfortunately his teammates couldn't really score outside of 2 feet.

Re: March Madness
Michigan State? They're playing right now on CBS
edit: they're playing Duke(aka Puke my most hated team right up there with Syracuse) so I'll be rooting for them.
And I also want to see Florida Gulf Coast win

Re: March Madness
Syracuse played very well vs IU. Although IU were terrible.
Puts an end to my hopes and dreams. Can't say IU deserved sh*t though.
GOOOOO WITCHITA! And idk how FGC are doing but I hope they do well. All I have left to root for are underdogs.

Re: March Madness
FGCU ....so ends their run. It was a good one though.
This MSU team just wasn't strong enough against a powerhouse like Duke. We hung with them for about 3/4s of the game though until they pulled away.
Elite 8 then:
Michigan-Florida
Duke-Louisville
Witchita-Ohio State
Syracuse-Marquette

Re: March Madness
I hate Syracuse so much. Indiana is a better team than them no doubt. It's just that Syracuse plays that awful zone(you know the defense we all stopped playing when we were 13), and most teams aren't used to it. A team like Indiana definitely had not seen defense like that all year
Marquette has though, so that should be a great game.
3/8 of the teams left are Big East. Still the best conference, even in shambles
My final four now
Louisville vs Ohio State
Michigan vs Marquette

Marquette - Syracuse starting now
Go Marquette. Beat Syracuse and their lame gimmick zone defense that we all stopped playing in CYO ball.

Re: March Madness
Come on Marquette. Representing Wisconsin
And agreed Dmize. Indiana struggled vs the zone defense, that was clear. Still, IU didn't play well enough for the win, which is too bad.
I hope Syracuse and Ohio State crash out. I hate Ohio State and I don't care for Syracuse especially since they knocked out IU.

I hate the zone. It's a gimmick for lesser athletes/defenders to defend the more elite athletes/players. Which Syracuse doesn't have so there's no reason for it.
In Man 2 Man if you have one or 2 weak defenders it's going to be harder to defend since they can be attacked. With the zone, you can hide the weakness of those defenders since they're basically never isolated.
The teams that can beat Syracuse' zone usually have a tall(6'7 or higher) player that has good vision/passing ability and can shoot a 15 footer so they can set up a high/low game. Bring him to the FT, PG gives him the ball and he faces the basket, the zone defender under the basket has to commit leaving the under hoop area and baseline open for backdoor cuts.
^ that with great ball movement and good shooting night will take them out.
I don't like OSU either. Aaron Craft is absolutely insufferable, and just watching him screams "douchebag"

Re: March Madness
OH MY FVCKING GOD.
Who saw the injury to the Louisville player?!?!
WORST SPORTS INJURY I THINK IVE EVER SEEN, NOT EVEN OVERREACTING. JESUS CHRIST.
Player Kevin Ware jumped defending a 3 pt shooter, he lands awkwardly. Then he lifts up his leg and it's completely broken. Hanging down from the shin/tibia area. Happened right in front of his teams bench and their reaction said it all. I'm still shaken up just from watching that.
Pray for that kid.

watch at your own discretion
Theres a close up too with the bone broke through the skin.
Right after he said "Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. Just go out and win this thing."

Truly awful stuff. I wish him a quick recovery, although that's not going to happen

Re: March Madness
On a good note, I won both of my brackets with Michigan and Louisville winning today. Although it's more because I had the least horrible picks out of the people I was playing with. I just think it's funny because I'm the only one in our group that doesn't watch basketball. Which my friends will never hear the end of until next years tournament...

That was horrific. What spirit from him to keep his teammates going after an injury like that though.

Re: March Madness
Believe it or not a torn ACL is a worse injury. It's a clean break so surgery shouldn't be too complicated and bones recover 100%. He'll be fine by next season.

Tell that to Joe Theismann
edit: but I get your point. They're both about 8-12 month recovery times. He'll play again, but I would guess he'll miss most of the next season.
This guy Shaun Livingston from the NBA dislocated and tore just about every ligament in his knee and is still playing; medicine today is amazing.
"Livingston sustained tears of his anterior cruciate ligament, the posterior cruciate ligament, lateral meniscus, and retinaculum, the tissue that surrounds the kneecap. He tore his medial collateral ligament and dislocated his tibia-femoral joint and patella. "

Re: March Madness
There's a difference in the two injuries.
If you dare to look you'll see that it's a clean single break.
Theismanns equivalent bone broke into several pieces and left him with a shorter leg.
Liken it to fixing a Kit-Kat that's been snapped in half vs. a Kit-Kat that's been smashed in half.
