Absolutely agree. What an idiot! He knew exactly what he was doing and through his actions he has completely denied the history of his nation and of humanity. The Nazi salute stands for genocide, war and suffering. He stands for that, he deserves the punishment.

Btw, this made the evening news in Australia and I'm glad I live in a country where people don't condone this kind of stuff.

Yeah TBH his attempt at talking himself out of it didn't even sound half bad. I can really see how you'd point at the crowd like that to make them "stand up", on the other hand, Greece is a formerly Nazi occupied country, and I have yet to meet a Greek person, no matter how uneducated, that deosn't know how a Nazi salute looks like.

Also, and aleumdance linked to this, Greece is currently experience a huge resurgence of Fascism in the wake of the austerity programs.

He deserves the benefit of the doubt. I've seen some other footballers get fined for the nazi salute when they were not doing it or were not aware of it's consequence.

On the other hand, this is sure to put a stop to that kind of thing in Greece, I think it's a good move by the Greek FA.

People find that salute outright offensive, others while not offended at least find it in very bad taste. However stupid he was to do it though, a lifetime ban is over the top. Seems they wanted to make a statement of absolute non-tolerance by the severity, Alright fine I understand the reasoning, but a life time ban for one spontaneous salute (seemingly without any corroborating evidence of him being a nazi symphatizer) is ridiculous beyond belief.

exactly.. he is actually one of the most promising, considering greece's standards i think he would fit right in, in the future..
he was one of the best if not the best player in his last european campaign with the youngsters national team
