The Nazis were incredibly harsh on the Greeks during their occupation in the war, as they were with every occupied nation. Very sensitive stuff for Greece though so I understand why they came down so hard on this guy.

The player did a nazi salute , end of it. He won't play for the national team ever again and his current club will offload him first chance. These fascist bullshit should be non existant in 2013 , never mention showing up in football fields.

The funny part is , when he was asked about it after that match, he did hold an agressive stance , never took it back .But when he was informed of the consequences of his action , he apologised by saying he was "saluting a friend in the stands"..

They were indeed, as you said , like with every occupied nation. But this incident is the result of social brainwashing . Since that Golden Dawn half-brains who think they are descendants of ancient greeks got into politics , we cannot seem to hear the end of it. These stuff are not something rare these days , sadly enough.
