Who is the best centre back in the game today?

We're pretty used to seeing attacking fullbacks in the game who get upfront and like to score, especially nowadays. We don't really shine the light on central defenders who know their way to goal though. Now a goalscoring CB is something I love to see so who do you think is the best at this? Obvious choices are Piqué(my pick), puyol, dedé, and occasionally hummels. Of course most chances are usually taken with the head maybe during a set piece but who else is out there that you've seen can get to goal from the back. And which is best with the ball at their feet? Again, I'm saying piqué but surely there are others.

Raphael Varane.

Hummels and Luiz are by far the best in terms of technical ability imo


Pique isnt THAT good technically as people make him be

Gonzalo Rodriguez from Fiorentina has five goals this season

Vermaelen is an absolute beast as is Gallas who is ridiculously intelligent in terms of getting in good positions but I agree with an earlier poster who said Luiz is by far the most technical defender in the english game at least, frankly, luiz is more technical than most epl midfielders and strikers

Ramos is pretty good at attacking imo.

Thiago Silva is so good technically that he can comfortably play as a defensive midfielder who breaks up the play and starts attacks from deep. He has done this while at Milan and is also a danger in the penalty box with his head and just outside the box from where he has scored multiple goals with his right peg...
