Re: If Arsenal don't win the CL/finish 4th, is it time for Wenger to get sacked/leave?
They're stagnating at the moment. Not competing for trophies or havent transitioned into a mid-table side either. They're in between but they've been stuck there for a while now.
Unless there's no clear backing up from the board ,i cant see whoever comes in doing a better job than him.
Besides which top bracket manager would be lured into coaching this current Arsenal team ? You know wage structure, transfer budget and the direction which this team is leading into ,it'll all be huge turn offs for them.In the end whoever's lined up to be Wenger's replacement would be a downgrade and that would be a massive risk to take cos even if he turns out to be some genius 'prodigious' manager ,the team is still isnt anywhere near good enough for title contention and ofcourse they run the risk of turning into another Liverpool with such a scenario.
There is no breathing space for them either with the City's,Chelsea's and and the United's of the league and their frivolous spending ways. One advantage Juve had prior to them reaching to the top was clubs around Juve were in a precarious financial situation and that enabled us to grow and become the team we are now.
Not the case in EPL though. The league in itself is setup in such a way that you either go all bonkers in the market or you perish.Thats the reality of the PL tbh.
I really dont think his sacking would help the club much imo.Just how i feel.

Surag, you're joking, right? You think Arsenal FC would struggle to attract managers? We're not Wrexham or Leyton Orient yanno

rwo power wrote:Well, IIRC, Arsenal is working with profit every season, so I wonder why they don't invest a little of it as trophies should actually increase the value of the brand and thus expand profits, too.Yohan Modric wrote:True, their recent success doesn't show they're an elite club. However I'm sure they still want to win the big trophies. There's probably other clubs currently who were also good in the past, however can't compete for the big trophies due to lack of money etc. However I'm sure Arsenal are still capable of competing, buying players etc.
In Germany, you have the HSV and BMG who have a good name from their past successes, but who were forced to bake little buns due to lack of money. But step by step they are still working on improving their squads to return to the top tiers again.
The only reason we make profit is due to selling players, otherwise we would be in the red, however when the new commercial deals kick in we should be making a healthy profit, enough not to sell players to buy

True, but I dont think its too bold to claim that most people would prefer to be in Arsenal's situation than Liverpools (or would they?)
Liverpools owners have put up the money, its just been managed terribly
Arsenal dont even get the chance to mis-manage their transfer funds cause they don't seem to have any
I can't disagree.
We've been pissing money away since Summer of 2008.
n it appears to be a curse because managers and owners have come and gone since and it hasn't changed.
Really lacking a Daniel Levy type of person at the club.....That guy is the biggest boss out there
I think you mean Summer of 2007.
In summer of 2008 we wasted £19.3m on Robbie Keane. £7m on Andrea Dossena. £3m on Diego Cavalieri. The only decent singing that summer was Riera for £8m, and even he was a one season wonder.

I think the best thing that might happen to Arsenal this season is to end the season below 4th, that might create a shock in the club, and changes might happen, not necessarily Wenger leaving but maybe change in transfer policy.

I hear all the sentimental arguments, positive thinking by arsenal fans and what not but 8 years without a trophy.
8 goddamn years without winning anything, and some embarassing losses in cup tourneys over the years.
just sack him already are u nuts? it's not getting better.
Next season you will be tricked with some nice names you think will fix your problems like Ayew, Capoue, Villa etc... typical wenger signings that have a life span of about 3 months. just sack him and enter a new chapter in your club history, dunno what that management is holding out for... oh wait, dividends!

Who would you suggest ? When we're talking about Wenger's replacement ,i mean someone worthy of replacing him not just some young upcoming 'prodigy' or some other mid-table EPL manager.
Hypothetically speaking ,would a Guardiola,Mourinho or a Klopp for example be interested in managing Arsenal with the kind of wage structure and transfer policies you're running with ? I have my doubts.

LOL, Wenger has total power, he made the Wage structure. New manger can change Arsenal.
Wenger is the highest paid Manager in EPL, you think the board turns down Wenger if he wants to buy a player? no.
We can attract the best managers out there. There is no consequences for losing at Arsenal. In Wenger we are stuck for another 2 years. Wenger will not be sacked or nor will he quit.

Wenger has messed up! Mediocre players on high wages and long contract has stopped us from buying quality! We are selling quality players to subsidies this mediocre players.

So why were many Arsenal fans here slagging off the board and not Wenger for selling Van Persie to United ? I am a little confused here.

Wenger calls most of the shots, if not all. Wenger even overrides the board over a lot of the decisions, by will of the owner Satan Donkey. Wenger buys the players we have, he negotiates the salaries.Surag wrote:So why were many Arsenal fans here slagging off the board and not Wenger for selling Van Persie to United ? If Man Utd/Liverpool can play a 2nd Team in the cup, why cant Arsenal? Its more like the tactics problem. Arsene Wenger not a good tactiction IMO. Everytime i watch Arsenal, they are the same and predictable.

We will finish below 4th this season, but there will be no positive change as long as Wenger is manager.

arsenal need pellegrini. that guy can work with 2mill signings and make them unstoppable.
his malaga beat madrid and drew barca 2-2 away, they beat milan and won their group with three games to spare this all with a bunch of rejects/talented players.
at arsenal he wouldn't have the fear of being sacked for a couple of poor results either. imagine pelle with wilshere and cazorla my god

Because we were just as confused during a time where we had zero clarity about what was going on at the club. The board were the easier scapegoat.
Things have been cleared up somewhat since then.

Wenger made the wage structure in response to not having big transfer money... It was due to the new stadium costs and related debt.
Not sure why it hasn't changed once the books got in order.
I have a hard time believing that a manager would refuse to buy the best players in the world if the club was willing to let him lol. I think Wenger is just being a good soldier for the board of directors...

This might come as a surprise but most billionaire owners don't spend their own money on signings.
Newcastle's owner has a net wealth of 2.5-5 billion, but all the money we spend is from the club and our own income.
Having lots of money in the bank or having billionaire owners =/= you have billions to spend.
Very few owners are like City and Chelsea, majority of them don't spend their own money on players it is the club's income that pays for it.

Usmanov owns 30% of shares is the richest man in Russia (twice richer than Roman) declared he is willing to spend his own money (no loan back as Roman's system) but Stan and Gazidis are ignoring him for 'some reason'.

Wait, hold on. Wenger is the highest paid manager in the EPL?
I never knew that, that is shocking and quite hypocritical of him as he usually whines and crows when players want to move to City or other teams to get paid.
Does he make more then any player on the team?
