Arsenal v West Ham Preview
Arsenal v West Ham, Wednesday 23rd January 7.45pm, Emirates Stadium, Premier League
Walcott & Wilshere were again two of Arsenal's best performers during the loss against Chelsea
Premier League Table
1. Man Utd 56pts
2. Man City 51pts
3. Chelsea 45pts
4. Spurs 41pts
---------------
5. Everton 38pts
6. Arsenal 34pts
----------------
12. W.Ham 27pts
Gunners aim to bounce back from successive defeats
Arsenal made unwanted history at the weekend. The 2-1 loss at Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, which came a week after the defeat against champions Manchester City, meant it was the first time the club had lost consecutive league games in a year. Not since the trio of losses against Fulham, Swansea and Manchester United twelve months ago have Arsene Wenger's men been in poorer form. While the Frenchman was understandably critical of his squad at Tuesday morning's press conference - "The consistency of our performances within the game is worrying" - he will be aware that his players did respond brilliantly after that patchy form last season. February 2012 saw a run of seven successive victories in the Premier League, with results that few expected.
Winnable fixtures are on the horizon for the gunners. West Ham at the Emirates on Wednesday night is followed by a trip to Championship side Brighton in the FA Cup and then home games against Liverpool and Stoke. "The position we are in now is a little bit back-to-the wall and we have to respond," Wenger added.
Hammers hit indifferent form after bright start
After a win at St.James's Park in mid-November, West Ham sat in sixth place in the Premier League. While few expected them to remain there as the campaign progressed, their loss of form since has been a little surprising, given their start and quality available to coach Sam Allardyce.
Since that victory on Tyneside ten weeks ago, the Hammers have won just twice in eleven league games, losing six times. Allardyce's men have only won away from Upton Park on two occasions this season, and lost 3-0 at Sunderland in their last away league fixture.
Match Facts
* Arsenal have won eight and lost 0 of the last 10 matches in all competitions against West Ham.
* West Ham have failed to score in 7 of the last 9 Premier League games against Arsenal.
* West Ham were the last visiting team to win a Premier League game at Highbury and the first to win at the Emirates.
* Arsenal have scored in the 41st and 77th minutes in each of their last two matches against West Ham.
* There have been 4 penalties in the last 5 Premier League meetings between Arsenal & West Ham.
* Sam Allardyce has led a team to eight Premier League games away to Arsenal, and although he has never won (W0 D3 L5), his teams have only failed to score in one of those 8 visits.
* Only Liverpool & Manchester Utd (six each) have won away at Arsenal more often in the Premier League era than West Ham (4).
* Theo Walcott has been involved in 5 of Arsenal's last 6 Premier League goals (three goals, two assists) & has scored 11 in his last 15 appearances for Arsenal (in all competitions).
* West Ham have collected just 1 point in their last 5 away league games (D1 L4).
Team News
Arsenal
Podolski & Oxlade-Chamberlain return to the squad after illness but Arteta (calf), Coquelin (hamstring), Gervinho (African Nations) & Fabianski (foot) are unavailable.
West Ham
Chamakh (ineligible), Maiga (African Nations), Carroll (knee), McCartney (knee) and Collins (hamstring) are all out.
Arsenal bench: Mannone, Mertesacker, Sagna, Santos, Diaby, Rosicky, Oxlade-Chamberlain
Manager's comments
Arsene Wenger
"We had some good games away from home, I believe, even on Sunday [at Chelsea] you cannot say we had a bad game, but we missed the start of the game. I think we had one really really bad game against Manchester United. Apart from that we have been quite good away from home."
"It’s difficult for everybody. Every team has its period where it goes well and where it goes a little bit less well. West Ham are a team that is dangerous and can create danger. After they lost Andy Carroll to injury, of course it was a bit damaging for them. That could be one of the explanations why their form has dipped."
Sam Allardyce
"I'll change the team and might change the formation and use the squad to its full potential. The reason we dominated the game against QPR so much is that only three of the players that played in the previous game at Manchester United started."

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Preview
Great work sam!
I honestly can't be bothered with this match. I will watch it and support obviously but it is one of those games where it will be furstrating for most part and may or may not end in a good ending.
Players must be tired so not expecting a great performance. I really hope wenger rotates a bit. Would like to see Frimpong and Ramsey in the team. West ham will park the bus and defend deep so i don't know about Theo upfront but can't be that bad. Would go with
Podolski-Walcott-Oxlade trio
Frimpong-Wilshere-Ramsey midfield
Jenkinson-Koscielny-Mertesacker-Gibbs defence

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Preview
Hope Wenger doesn't start all our strikers, need someone to come off the bench and have a chance to change the game: Hope to see something like this.
Bench: Mannone, Sagna, Vermaelen, Frimpong, Eisfeld, Rosicky, Giroud
WHU will park the bus but they can't defend away from home to save their lives so Walcott starting upfront won't neccesarily mean he will fail, and even attacking wise they're horrible but won't be surprised if we make them look good as we usually do. Bring Giroud, Rosicky and Eisfeld later on.
p.s Diame will destroy our physically weak midfield however we field with Diaby rested, Arteta/Coquelin out and no DM signed.
Szczesny
Jenkinson Mertesacker Koscielny Gibbs
Ramsey Wilshere
Chamberlain Cazorla Podolski
Walcott
Jenkinson Mertesacker Koscielny Gibbs
Ramsey Wilshere
Chamberlain Cazorla Podolski
Walcott

Great preview Sam.
A must win game, WHU are good team and I have a bad feeling, it will end a tie or loss.
We were lucky to beat them away and I am sure they are looking for revenge.

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Preview
Great preview.. i completely agree with your lineup..
If we cant get all the 3 points in such a game at such situation, then its goodbye for top4 spot..
We have a habit of leaving it late and panicking in the last 15 mins.. If Rosicky is fit, he must start over Cazorla and play the first 45 or 60 mins whatever he is capable, not the last 10 mins.. Giroud should start upfront and Walcott at right.. Metskr and Sagna has been surprisingly in many of the last matches.. I would welcome dropping them for Jenko and Koscielny..
although i will be happy to see Ramsey getting a start, the team may benefit more by playing Frimpong in a defensive midfielder role.. Rosicky should play CAM and Jack pulled back for this game..

Arsene Wenger is considering playing Captain Thomas Vermaelen in a midfield role in tonight's game.
