Should male rapists be castrated?

After a rape-scandal in Bolivia a senator is introducing a bill that will allow for the castration of male rapists. Do you agree with the general sentiment behind that proposed law?

Depends on if it's "legitimate rape."

Previously a man got 6 years for importing garlic and claiming it was apples as it has a lower tax rate.

No - I think that qualifies as cruel and unusual punishment.

The most effective prison systems in the world focus on rehabilitation rather than sanctions like these which only really fulfill the revenge element of criminal justice.

If the logic is that this will prevent crime it's flawed. If may prevent the repetition of the exact act but it's going to increase recidivism if you widen the scope to all criminal activity.

Temporary chemical castration over a protracted period might be an option but even so I don't see the point when there are clearly better avenues.

No. That law will be abused to extremes. Even if thousands of rapists are allowed to escape no innocent person should be hanged imo

Castrating rapists sounds nice and all, but this is a crime where tons of innocents get convicted on false testimony, and even more tons of perpetrators go free for lack of evidence, or never even get charged.

Rape is a crime that usually happens with only two witnesses, the perp and the victim, and that just leaves too many openings for abuse, and costly mistakes.
This is also why I think capital punishment is a barbaric, primitive practice. There's too many innocents convicted. If you're really so keen on the idea of castration, court-mandate a temporary chemical castration as a condition of early release for violent sex offenders, that way you can still reverse it if they turn out to be innocent.

But I'm, on the whole, hugely against any form of corporal punishment, as long as the court system isn't flawlessly perfect.

Well if it wasn't legitimate, there wouldn't be a crime, because the female body would've "shut the whole thing down", it "has ways" to do that.
