The first goal was important.

If we scored in the opening 30 minutes we would of beat them comfortably aswell. We lost because of ourselves rather than Aston Villa performing. It was still a great performance by Benteke but I think we should let this thread die out...

I know this isn't the right time to make fun of Lambert given we were outplayed by Stoke and all.

But in 2 games Lambert's team has conceded 12 goals and scored nil.

how stoke equalize i dont know..saw 3-1 before half time and when i checked full time result it's a draw...games against teams like stoke depends on tempo of the game.......

It is mind-boggling how Aston Villa have managed to assemble such a weak squad while spending all these years in the Premiership. And we thought our recent transfer policy has been bad.

Agreed. They've also spent on N'Zogbia and Given (unsure of the exact amounts), not to mention failing to cash in on Agbonlahor when his hype was at it's highest a few seasons back. The reinvestment of the funds from Ashley Young and Downing has been utterly poor.

It's certainly worth a mention that their "Captain" (in spirit if not on paper) is in the stands indefinitely, and their record signing is riding the pine pony. Even so, you would think that they could put together a bit more quality than this.

That said, they have boatloads of potential. It's merely a case of failing to put it together barring a few matches this season. Unfortunately, against us, we experienced a perfect storm of Villa "clicking" and us being complacent. Those days can happen in our situation (new manager, new style, new squad, etc.). Mind you, that's not an excuse, merely an observation. It's similar to the West Brom defeat in that we had chances that we failed to take and then were on the back foot after conceding a very good goal. It's aggravating that we failed to take the points, but in no way do I see it as a sign that we are an inferior team.

I think some football director at Villa has been playing real-life FIFA, buying young players with potential, expecting to assemble a top-class squad without spending over the top.

But Bent's signing was a considerable success and did serve its purpose imo.

Villa would have been relegated had it not been for Bent's goals that season imo
