I think it's about time we break the myth that Bayern defense is weak, I know this originated from Van Gaal abyss era, who simply did not train for defence. He promoted a youth DM with the pace of a snail into leftback and then moved him to CB and kept on playing Midfielder's such as Tymo/Gustavo and ancient millipede pace error prone DVB as CB. I could understand critic point of view then, but that misery is now over, should we now dwell in the past, people still tend to measure our defensive ability based on the utter mess that was created by Van Gaal even though we conceded the fewest goals in all of Europe last season only behind Juventus. (if I can remember)

If you still want to under-rate it's fine with us, but go ahead and name any team in the world that can boast of this defensive line-ups for both first and 2nd team.






Please don't mention Van Buyten, he's our 5th choice CB behind Boateng(1st choice, only player to have played every minute for Bayern this season) Dante(2nd), Badstuber(3rd) and Martinez comes as 4th who played as CB in the cup match, DVB is yet to see the pitch this season.

That being said, Real has two excellent back 4s, with having 4 decent FBs as well as CBs.

Arbeola, Marcelo, Ramos, that Portuguese guy that got owned by Bayern Coentrao,
then those CBs, I'm sure they have names, honestly, who cares, they got Ronaldo and Özil up front, that's pretty epic, also Barca has, like, defenders and stuff.

Chelsea will have a fine defence once terry is back. Cole is an excellent fullback, Cahill is on par with Dante, and Azpi can fill in fine on the right. Luiz, Bosingwa, Iva and Bertrand make excellent rotations, especially Iva.

But I agree maybe only Juventus, Chelsea and Madrid have such quality depth in defence but still they don't come close to Bayern considering another important advantage we have.

Footballing knowledge on this forum is really low, I need to start educating people more.


First of all, there is difference between team that have 2 defensive line-up and teams that have 2 quality defensive line-up, only Bayern currently have 2 quality defensive line-up, next to them Juventus, Chelsea and Madrid.


The rest are not worth mentioning.

Chelsea and Juventus' defense is much better. I also think that Dortmund's, Man United's and Real Madrid's defense is on par with Bayern.

Lahm is a boss. Dante is unproven really on the internaitonal scale in a big time game. Boateng still scares me and Badstuber needs to be pared with a pacey partner. I have never seen Martinez play as CB so I can't rate him there. alaba is still just learning the position and as a result he will make a few mistakes. Rafinha is equal to Jansen and Contento is still developing.

It is too much of a stretch to say Bayern has the best defense in the world. In a little while, maybe, but for now, no.
