Madrid, Barcelona and one other top side wanted to sign him. I forget who the third team was. They all made serious bids back in 2003? I think it was and he rejected them all to stay with Roma. Perez was a massive fan of Totti and still is. You don't see too many loyal players anymore let alone players that stay with one club their entire career. It's a dying breed when the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Gerrard, Totti etc etc all retire. Sad

Being loyal isn't the 'good thing' in football imo. At the end of the day it's about winning stuff and being the best.

The closest top club to join Totti was Real Madrid but he preferred to stay at Roma . Another player loyal in those years was Javier Zanetti, he had also agreement with Real in 2000 but he wanted to remain with Inter.

How many ppl knows that Totti was very close to join in Sampdoria in 1996 ?

Carlos Bianchi , the Roma manager at that time ( yes, the Velez and Boca Juniors legend ) , didn't appreciate him and he wanted to sell him to Sampdoria.

The negotiations were advanced but then Totti scored a goal in a friendly match against Ajax , after a great performance, and the president Sensi was persuaded to not to listen Carlos Bianchi.

Totti is now immortal...Had he left that perhaps wouldn't have been the case.He will be a living legend until his least breath,and an even bigger one after that.He will always be remembered,his name will always be mentioned,his goals and records will always be talked about and replayed whenever there's a Roma game scheduled.

Trade that for a couple trophies?Never.
