Denmark MUST beat Italy to have the slightest hope of making the play-offs.

as it stands the second team in group B is the worst runner up and the maximum point Denmark can garner against teams that aren't MALTA, is 12 (provided they beat Italy). the minimum for other runner ups is 12 now with 2 games to play.

so even if Denmark beat Italy and Malta and get 2nd spot, most likely they won't make it to the play-offs as they will be the worst runner ups

Yeah Sep just came to post that. They absolutely must beat Italy and hope that some other second place teams goal difference goes to shit. The chances are very slim.

Okay so Denmarks best shot right now is overtaking Hungary in the second placed rankings.

Hungary currently have 11 points in the second placed rankings with a goal difference of +1

Hungary's only two remaining matches are away to Netherlands and Andorra (the last placed team, the result of which won't make any difference). So hopefully the Dutch give Hungary a thumping or at least win by 2 goals to bring their goal difference below 0.

If Denmark were currently in second spot they would be ranked in the table in last place with 9 points with a goal difference of -2 So beating Italy is a MUST with whatever scoreline possible. That would put them in 12 points and a goal difference of -1 or better. If Hungary draw Netherlands, Denmark will have to win by 4 goals against Italy.

So for Denmark to realistically qualify for the playoffs.
1. They MUST beat Italy with whatever scoreline

2. Netherlands MUST beat Hungary with whatever scoreline

3. Denmark must make sure to make 2nd place in their own group. So winning against Malta as well on the last matchday.

4. Bulgaria must draw at least 1 of their last two games against Armenia and Czech republic.


Lots of things has to go their way but it is definitely possible.

However, forgot to add another major complication. Hungary isn't guaranteed second spot in their group either

Turkey and Romania are still in the mix. If Turkey gets second in the group then Denmark will still be safe as Turkey have a super shit record. But If Romania gets second, and it looks very likely as they face Estonia and Andorra in their last two matches, then Denmark's hopes of overtaking the second place of group D is over.

With Denmark, Bendtner is truly fantastic.

This talent he shows is what Wenger saw in the first place.

Why he cant do anything remotely close at club level is up for debate, but for Denmark, you cant fault him.

I think his work ethic has really hindered his career. His apparent confidence is also something I actually don't believe he has. When he has full confidence from his coach he'll play well. But hard for him to get that without showing his true ability first, which he has failed to achieve at Arsenal for many years.
