that's awesome...I think other teams will replicate it, this could turn out be very useful machine to train with. especially in the England where technical ability, passing and first touch is lacking.

Re: Borussia Dortmund showcase 'The Footbonaut'
Actually this thing is a bit older already. I remember I saw a demo of this some years ago - and a little googling provided me with one of the original articles: http://www.spiegel.de/sport/fussball/fussball-trainingsmaschine-footbonaut-kickt-wie-vom-anderen-stern-a-547046.html
I'm just a bit surprised that Dortmund seems to have bought it first as several other clubs know of it for a while already, too.

No wonder their defense has been absolute useless.
Nothing is as good as humans training with other fellow humans
I hope they keep using it

Wow, that looks like quite a bit of fun honestly. Could see that taking shape here in a similar capacity as batting cages do for baseball.
Probably get a great workout from it as well.

I have to agree with Messiah here. This same exercise can be replicated by forming small passing groups with other players and it has the added benefit of actually training with your teammates.
Passing to targets and passing to team-mates are very different. While this exercise is great, i don't see how this can add much value to players already playing in the top level where your success depends a lot on team chemistry.

Well, the Spiegel article from 2008 wrote that this thing was real fun and the biggest problem was how to get the guys out of the footbonaut again

Agreed, I don't think this is really a good training method. Yeah, it can be used complimentary for a few minutes, especially with young players... but is it really worth it?

Re: Borussia Dortmund showcase 'The Footbonaut'
From the article it says it is used for rehab reasons, too. Footballers on rehab usually train on their own anyway, so this might be a fun break from all the boring other rehab stuff?
BTW, I saw an interview with Kloppo a while ago where he already talked about the footbonaut, too, and there he admitted that Dortmund are currently just experimenting with the thing, as no one has any ideas yet in how much players benefit from the training in there, what training times are useful etc. So it seems that Dortmund is sort of doing the test run for the company to figure out all of that stuff.
I bet they got the machine for free so that they would do a proper field test with it to later provide the manufacturers with data about how useful it is in the first place and how to use it in training.

That looks like a great way to drill younger players into making the right passes.
It helps that it looks really fun too.

Re: Borussia Dortmund showcase 'The Footbonaut'
I really like the idea, lets you have a player train passing, first touch, and technique alone, without the need for other players to supply him. Sure, doesn't replace team training, but it's exactly right for that one player who likes to stay an hour or two after official training to work on his technique.

I'm quite sure Kloppo will give him game time when he considers him fit and ready for the team. It's not as if he wouldn't play youngsters if they are ready for it.Forza Rossoneri wrote:too bad he doesn't get much game time.

Dortmund introduce the Footballnaut: amazing technique training
Very good training. If the dutch FA had more money I am sure something like this would have been introduced. I reccomend English youth teams should install this so that their players can actually learn to pass a football, because English football is at least 20 years behind.
Why is it always the Germans
