Re: Back 4 of Steel
Really not certain what's so funny.....
Cole looked good in Chelsea's defence because they defending as a 11 ffs.
Even Bosingwa looked good
Despite all that he was still at fault for the majority of the goals.
As an individual he isn't that great defensively.
But in a place where everything is based on names, past achievements and myths i don't expect individual analysis to be all too popular tbh.

Re: Back 4 of Steel
Pepe was hardly faultless in that game either..... it was Pepe who ran into midfield and got smoked by Yaya leaving a massive gap in the back 4 that Khedira and Varane had to cover which obviously they couldn't do.
Besides 1 game doesn't make someone better than someone else.
And if it does then Marchisio and Vidal are better than Pirlo.

I can`t understand why people continually choose Cafu & Carlos as their right & left backs, neither were the greatest defensively, Cafu was not bad but his strength clearly lay in attack, Carlos was an out & out liability as a defender.
These 2 are ideal as wing backs but definitely not as full backs, whats the point in having defenders that are more interested in attacking ?

Re: Back 4 of Steel
The strongest backline I can choose is the same back 4 I always choose & the same back 4 I choose for my all time world 11 in the other thread on here.....
Thuram -- Nesta -- Baresi -- Maldini
Defensively rock solid !

Thread should have ended after this one. Puts all others to shame.
Anyone else upset that Pepe is considered the best/one of the best CBs these days? WTH happened to quality CBs?

Even going forward, I think Cafu was a tad overrated. I've never seen somebody defend the by line as good as Thuram, either while playing at right back or when he played on the right of the 3-man back line at Parma.

why is that sad? no player, including even Messi can't go through him, and messi has owned likes of Vidic, t.silva and them time and time and time again...
Pepe is a beast, have you seen his speed and acceleration? He is good in air, strong, .. Did you see him play in Euros? or against barcelona in Super cup just for an example...
anyways on topic, Defensively... Lahm...Pepe....Puyol (2 yrs ago)...Coentrao
or ... Arbeloa....Pepe... Kompany... Lahm
