Higuain on the verge of greatness?
Before the haters get a word in just let me state some things.
He is equal leading goal scorer in the CONMEBOL with 6 goals.
He now has 15 goals for Argentina in 28 matches and he isn't even 25 yet. He needs 5 more goals to make it into the top 10 scorers for Argentina and 9 more to get into the top 5.
Of his 15 goals only 3 have come in friendly games, he also has a world cup hattrick to his name, something only 2 other Argentinians have ever managed.
On top of that he has 107 goals for Real Madrid making him the 15th highest goal scorer in Madrid history, recently passing R9 and is a real possibility of cracking the top 10 maybe even the top 5 if he stays with Madrid.
Even more to add to that he has had the best start to a season ever managing 4 goals in 5 games for Madrid, if he is shown the constant support up front for both Argentina and Madrid having the support of the two greatest players today in Messi and Ronaldo then I think he can at the end of his career be named one of the best #9's to have played for Madrid and Argentina, especially if he hits his peak in 2-3 years. He may not touch such legends as Puskas/Stefano/Batigol but to get close is good enough imo.
Huge transformation from a player who arrived at Madrid as a winger who came off the bench at just 19 years of age in 2006 and who despite excellent form did not get a call up for Argentina until 2009, helping Argentina to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.
He is one of the absolute best players I have seen in making runs behind the defence and one of the absolute best readers of a defensive line I have ever seen.
Do you feel he can become a true great of the game or is it all fallacy and fancy?

There is no doubt he is one of the best strikers in the world. if he plays in all matches he can even score more goals than Ronaldo imo.

Re: Higuain on the verge of greatness?
in before Mourinho benches him for Benzima.
- trolling aside, I've always been a fan of the guy. I think he is a fantastic player and is unfortunately on a team that can do with or without him starting every game....which means he won't be starting every game. Would be interesting to see how many goals he could get if Benz got injured or lost form and he got a chance to play every match up front (also if he got to take Honaldo's PKs lol)

Re: Higuain on the verge of greatness?
Im a big fan of Benzema...
He will become a true great for RM and his NT no doubt.
Oh wait... Youre talking Higuain??
Yeah not a bad player. Needs consistency on goal. His style of play doesnt allow him to miss chances.
Probably the only classic fox today.
I like him.

Re: Higuain on the verge of greatness?
I think he can be a true great for Argentina, up there with Batistuta as their best ever striker.. When it comes to Madrid though, it all depends on him beating out Benzema for the perennial #1 striker spot..
Great player though

He won't reach the level of Batistuta.

It's hard to be consistent whilst warming up the bench for Benzema...

Re: Higuain on the verge of greatness?
add to that Crimson, Higuain has always been the less favourable player because of his name but still he has delivered
In Argentina he benched Kun and in Madrid he benched Benzema before he got injured and is in the process of benching him again
I think he can become a true legend in both Madrid/Argentina

Re: Higuain on the verge of greatness?
Great thread Crims......it pains me to see people undervalue Gonzalo, he's on his way to be a Madrid and Argentina legend. He's done almost everything one can ask and yet he doesnt get the credit he deserves. Madrid should do everything to keep Higgy for a long time, if anything i rather we lose Benz than him. Reminds me of Raul so much even though they are completely different.

He still has insane potential. If he was fed more by the team he can score a sh*t load more. If he keeps scoring like this, Benz is fracked lol.

Re: Higuain on the verge of greatness?
Can score 60 a season if made the main scorer on the team. I rather we lose Benzema as well TBH, I think he himself can do better elsewhere, Higuain is Madrrid through and through. Anyway, everyone knows what I actually want lol.
But I consider him a legend, Legend is not solely about stats, his stats are great, but the way he wears the shirt and what he's done under adversity and scrutiny means more to me.
Team doesn't play for him, and he has no higher backing but he gets it done anyway.

Re: Higuain on the verge of greatness?
i agree with what crimson said about higuain's ability to read defensive lines, and also making runs
but he needs to work on his finishing, obviously he can score and he scores a lot but he also misses a lot
and im not talking only about the last el classico cause he tends to overestimate himself in situations i know he could do better
with the form benzema has lately i definitely prefer higuain
as for him being one of the greats only time will say if he keeps it up and also improves more yes he can imo

Re: Higuain on the verge of greatness?
I have always thought Higgy is a great player and given the right playing time he could challenge any front man in the world for goals except Messi of course.
I LOVE the fact that he's a traditional striker always looking for goal and doesn't fool around with the ball or waste possession trying to be flashy not to mention I think his speed is extremely underrated.
I have always thought he's twice the striker Benz is although Benz has some other skills and thats great and everything but IMO Madrid already have those other skills in abundance so I don't know why he get's the nod over Higgy but who am I to question Mou.
And to the poster who said he's inconsistent, it's his playing time that's inconsistent, not him. When he plays he produces usually with minimal touches.
I will say he is one of the most efficient players in the world.

Oh and hey Ninis, what's with the Holocaust picture from the movie "Boy with the stripped Pajamas?
Why in the world would you have that as your picture on a football website, especially that picture from the movie?
BTW, this isn't an attack on you or anything it just looks wildly out of place and I'm wondering if I missed something or just what the deal is because you have been a decent poster and it's just well a Holocaust picture.

Re: Higuain on the verge of greatness?
He's hardly a flop. He's going through a bad drought...
On a side note, it's a bit dissapointing that someone that doesn't even support RM is defending Karim here.

Karim is a great striker too. actually they are different type of strikers but both are great. Karim isn't in good form but that's temporary.
