Arteta reminds me of Xabi Alonso
Perfect positioning
Perfect tactical awareness
Great tackling
Great passing
OK speed
Everyone here seems intent of finding a holding midfielder. Arteta has looked better in this role than anyone on Arsenal for a long time. In fact, it's the best he's looked personally ever. I think he lucked into a role he was always meat for.

Re: Arteta reminds me of Xabi Alonso
Arteta has always been a class and it sad he never made the Spain NT, I think if was given the chances he would do the job for Spain. Xabi and Arteta are really good friends, Arteta is the closest to Xabi.
I think Arteta was one of the biggest signings last year, his vision really help us, even though he is no Cesc he did as good as job any other player could have done for Arsenal.
There is a reason why Arsenal have lost almost every game where Arteta did not play, he really keeps the team together and I think the reason Carzola came to Arsenal was because of Arteta.

Re: Arteta reminds me of Xabi Alonso
Very well put sports
They are kinda similar when you think about it, The difference is just that Alonso is a better long passer while Arteta is stronger.
Coquelin can learn a lot by just watching him play and train

Re: Arteta reminds me of Xabi Alonso
It's sort of come full circle for Arteta. He started out playing a deeper, sort of defensive midfield role, then gradually played in more advanced positions as he went though PSG, Rangers and Everton. Now that's not as dynamic or as fit as he was, he's returned to his deeper role seamlessly.
The cries for a DM this summer have come from the fact that most people associate the position with big, strong guys who can destroy. Arteta, though, is proving that the most important quality needed to play there is intelligence.
It's remarkable how something of a panic buy on the last hour on the 11/12 transfer window has turned out to be one of Wenger's best purchases in his whole Arsenal career.

Other than Park (and that I highly doubt), we should know that Wenger never ever makes 'panic' buys.

Arteta is much more mobile than Alonso though, and better under pressure too

Better distributor too, while Alonso is more incisive. He doesn't remind me of Alonso at all tbh.

Dont know about world class, but needed more than a couple of chances to prove himself.

Think he's joking Anji Let's hope he can up his game at Celta Vigo (sp?) and comeback as the man we knew from his Monaco days.
On XabixArteta bromance. This picture tells it all.
Currently, I wouldn't trade him for any other midfielder.

Re: Arteta reminds me of Xabi Alonso
I foresee the DM position as we assosciated with in the 4-3-3 and 4-4-2 positions to be dead....With teams playing 4-2-3-1 at the moment, what you need is an intelligent 2! Who can play off each other, take the ball forward but also win it balll
It's the Song vs Diaby arguement!

Even if he was, I still believe there is more to the player than what meets the eye. But then again, Wenger knows way more about him than I probably ever will.

Re: Arteta reminds me of Xabi Alonso
Nah..Xavi's eyes.. and his overall expression sends chills down my spine.
It's like he sees in my soul. Not funny
On the other hand, Arteta at times makes me question my sexual orientation.
