Juve slam former Man Utd striker
Following his last-minute decision to snub Italian duo Fiorentina and Juventus for a move to Fulham, former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has drawn strong criticism from Juve sporting director Beppe Marotta.
Marotta, who was speaking to Sky Sport Italia regarding the Bianconeri‘s pursuit of Arsenal’s Nicklas Bendtner on the deadline day, slammed Berbatov for poorly communicating his decision to Fiorentina.
Yesterday, the Florence-based club expressed anger at Juve’s last-minute interference in their advanced negotiations with the Bulgarian star, only for the Italian champions to argue that they entered talks only after the player turned down a move to the Viola.
Fiorentina reportedly never found out about Berbatov’s rejection until he began undergoing his medical at Craven Cottage.
After reflecting on the sequence of events, Marotta has come to the conclusion that it was better for both the Serie A clubs to miss out on Berba.
“We reiterate that we only approached Manchester United and the player after we were informed he had already turned down Fiorentina. Perhaps he forgot to tell Fiorentina that.
“Berbatov certainly did not make a good impression on anyone and it was an unprofessional way to behave, so we agree with Fiorentina that it’s best he didn’t come here,” Marotta concluded.
