I can't remember a single thing you could do apart from driving on highways lol. It was a highway simulator at times.
Think you didn't explore enough lol, i haven't played MGS obviously but i haven't played a open world game with as much shit to do as GTA V tbh.

there's literally nothing besides missions in the open world
not even random patrols outside of the scattered bases, it just makes it all feel empty
which is why it's a forgettable open world IMO
gameplay wouldn't have suffered at all if it was purely level based
I didn't see or play it that way tbh. I enjoyed free roam and going from checkpoints to checkpoints looking for soldiers etc
but i agree that it was a lot closer to far cry in terms of open world. Wish we had another map apart from afghanistan and Africa.
In the end it all comes back to how the game had to be rushed to completion. If the game was to be released in 2016, we'd see 4 acts and no repeat missions. Most likely more things to do while on free roam.
But the game still has the highest re-playability value amongst most games. I've done each mission 4 times now and didn't feel forced (like with arkham knight) at all.

Re: The Official Metal Gear Solid 5 Thread
GTA 5 had tons to do lol. Most detailed non RPG open world game Inplayed along with Red Dead. Random encounters like the no country for old men event, stranger encounters like the hilarious because rider patrol dudes, stuff to collect, businesses to buy, side missions, races, water races, parachuting, challenges, customization, stores to rob
You are making it sound like Mafia 2 when in fact it had the best content out of most open world games.

Knew it wouldn't be long till M99 came to drop the mic
He's right though, although i'll comment on MGS open world when i play it.

AC Black Flag is up there with one of the most unique open worlds imo, genuinely loved it. (I wish they were gonna make BF 2 ffs)
