It was a great game, very intense down to the final minutes too. We played okay I suppose, we should have killed off the match we had plenty of chances too and a header hit the post as well but Egypt played very well and could have surprised us as they had alot of chances, but we were without our two best CBs so I don't expect a team of their stature to be doing as well against Argentina like that again. Iturbe played great and showed brilliant skill and did some Messi like dribbles by taking on multiple defenders at once, Lamela was as good as always and scored his penalties and set up his team mates. Andrada was excellent and made some good saves but also made an almost costly mistake but a defender cleared a ball heading towards goal.

Anyway, Fontas will be 5th choice CB. No worries. Abi and Machete are in front of him and they'll play whenever Pique or Puyol are missing. I'm fine with that, as if we bought another CB Machete would see not enough playing time.

Plus, to have a short squad is the way to introduce players from the youth. We need that for the future and to keep our youth policy. If you buy another CB, Fontas will never, ever, have playing time, will never show if he is good enough or not in big games, and will end up in Getafe.

That's not the way Barça does stuff.

Yeah. I agree with Free on this one guys. I don't think a CB is absolutely necessary. If it comes to it in big games, I'm happy with Alves, Pique, Abidal and Adriano, very happy. Fontas won't get many chances if we buy someone and Mascherano won't be happy either. I think Pep sees Masch as a good backup for Puyol and Abidal and Fontas as good backups for Pique. I don't really want to see Busi play there again though, because he's such a good midfielder.

If we do buy someone, I'd buy Vertonghen and sell Maxwell. Vertonghen is good and versatile, can play CB, LB, DM and LCM... and he wouldn't demand the same time as Silva and Kompany who would also cost way more.

Botia is off the menu because we missed out on the period where we could buy him for 2m. We'd have to negotiate for him now, and while I think he's better than Fontas, he isn't that much better and isn't worth 5-8m.

I kind of want this Cesc business to end... so either we transfer him right now, or he plays against Udinese. That will finish it. If he comes, make no moves in the market. If he doesn't, go for Andrada and get Vertonghen.

Kizz, i dont think we are getting anyone other than Cesc for the rest of the transfer window. That is what Pep has said right?

Yes, I was just meaning... if I could, I'd probably take Vertonghen.

I don't think Andrada's signing is ruled out though, or a forward for Barca B. They could still come regardless of Cesc.

Can't wait for the Cesc saga to end now though...

Yeah, I'd go with Bruno Alves... great player. However, I guess its clear we probably won't buy anyone. Maybe if Cesc does play against Udinese we'll see if Barca's transfer policy changes.

Yes we do, but i think he's got this one wrong unless Abidal is fit all season long and Fontas becomes Pique 2.0.

I think I stand somewhere mid-way on this argument. On one side I say let Pep do what he likes because he has more than earned it. On the other hand I am apprehensive this not buying of a top class CB has a small possibility of amounting to throwing the entire season away.

I dont think we are desperate for a centerback.

But we wasnt desperate for a midfielder and we got Cesc. Just think the defence could do with the same consideration.

Without Puyol or Pique, Masche is going to play as CB against fast defenders, Abidal is going to play CB against strong defenders.

That 30 odd million would probably allow Mr Wenger to poach yet another 100 kids....Owners paying $$ for goods stolen by thieves...uniquely Barca.....WTF why are we buying cesc? Is Tiago not good enough?

I understand that getting Cesc would improve our squad...but this deal is just not right in principle...more kids will be poached (mostly by Arsenal I reckon) as they knew that they can make a huge profit from us if the kids grow up to be great players....and those kids will leave knowing that Barca will be back for them in a few years time...

I do not like cesc...I think he is a slime...he betrayed both us and Arsenal when it suited him because he is a 2-faced slime...but since he is our player soon(most likely), I will support him, not as a person, but as a player

Now that Argentina are out of the u20 world cup on a ridiculous PK shootout, hopefully Barca buy Andrada, he only conceded one goal on the whole tournament which was off a penalty kick and he saved 2 PKs in the shootout vs Portugal but Argentina had to choke and somehow lost.
