Barcelona keeping tabs on Shakhtar Donetsk's Yaroslav Rakitskiy - report

Yaroslav Rakitskiy could set to leave Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk this summer as European champions Barcelona have shown an interest in signing the centre-back, reports from Ukraine and Catalan publication Sport report.

Barca are looking to add depth to their defence ahead of the new season to provide cover for the injury-prone Carles Puyol, and head coach Pep Guardiola sees the 21-year-old as a useful addition to his squad.

The Ukraine international has a contract with Shakhtar until the summer of 2014 and an offer in the region of €12 million could be needed to lure him away from the Champions League quarter-finalists.

Should he move, Rakitskiy would be the second young defender to leave Shakhtar for Barcelona in recent years after the previous transfer of Dmytro Chygrynskiy. The latter transferred to Camp Nou in the summer of 2009, but returned to Shakhtar again a season later after failing to make an impact at the Spanish giants.

It's unlikely that a move for Rakitskiy is a priority for Barca at the moment, however, as they are currently in intensive negotiations with Udinese over the transfer of Alexis Sanchez, while they are also keen to finally secure the services of Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas.

There's a difference with this lad, he actually has pace something Chygrinskiy never had and was the main reason he flopped at Barca.

I understand why everyone feels the way they do after the Chygrinskiy saga tho.

Been scouting, this Rakitskiy who we apprently linked to. Looks quite good, strong, solid guy..but niiiiice on the ball.

Isnt slow like Chgy at all.

Having said all of this if we were to buy a CB i would prefer to be an experienced one that can back up Puyol and Pique, bring through the youngsters like Bartra,Fontas and Muniesa and does'nt mind a bench role.

I suck at rating defenders mole and the main reason is because I dont look out for them in a match.
I can size up midfielders and forwards very fast as I am looking out for them but defenders nah.
So I wouldnt know whether a defender is any good unless I see him 10 or more times.
Cant say that about Rat guy.But the Chyg experience has turned me off.If we go for a defender its gotta be a genuine WC one.No more harebrained Pep selections.

Yh iam with you every step of the way and fully understand where you are coming from. I would go for a WC defender who can slip into the side at any stage and young or a geniune Puyol replacement or a high quality one who is'nt necessarily a Puyol replacement but is experienced and can bring the kids through and back up Puyol and is ok with a bench role....

But it's hard to say exactly who as world class cb's are not normally in huge supply which is why imo Puyol's replacement will be a very tough task, harder than Xavi's replacement imo.

Rakitskiy looks a pretty good player, much better then Chgy for sure. However, there is no point us getting him.

Unless we actually stay patient and gives players (young ones anyway) time to play through jitters and get used to the differences, they will all go the same way as Chgy and Caceres.

For the B team as there alot of forwards in the b team leaving for first team football, if he does well he can play for Barcelona and if not Barca could sell him further down the line for what would likely be a profit considering the fee.

1. Thiago and Fontas are IN. Think like Rossel = First two "signings".
2. Montoya it is on his way, so probably Maxwell is OUT???
3. Botia is first cheap option for CB position. Milito is OUT!!!
4. Jefren will stay.
5. Bojan on loan - buy out option.
6. Soriano??? Can he be better than Bojan in first team???
7. Keita stays in mid, so Afellay is foward.
8. 2 GK's, 8 defenders (each position 2), 6 midfielders (each positon 2), 6 fowards (each positon 2) is enaugh.

Why would we want that?

Still dont have depth. We just have numbers of young players who wont play in big games.

Not going to happen, the Sanchez deal is so close now it will happen its just a matter of time, Montoya wont be promoted he is going to stay in b-team just like Thiago did last year and play minutes for the first team.

As for Cesc that will happen aswell as much as none of us want it, if not then a CB will be bought in any case there will be atleast 2 new signings for the first team.

I believe it possible, I think we are more broke than we lead the public to believe. So yes, if we don't make any big signings I wouldn't be shocked. I think we could get bargain type deals of players who can step up and play in big games and play in different positions like what Affelay and Adriano do for us is exactly what we need. Not super stars, but not bench warmers either.

Cesc and Sanchez are players that should be starting some where and cost too much. I would of been happy if we could get Nilmar for the cheap (read Hummels was valued at 12M, that would be another great signing)

Thanks for the reply. As per kizz Jeffren is better than him. So why replace Jeffren with him? Is it because we want to make some money out of this or Jeffren insists being part of the first team and getting first team football?
