New member record for FC Bayern München in 2012
According to a current kicker.de article, Bayern München currently has 185 000 club members (that is, people who signed up with the club and pay a member fee, not an estimated number of supporters). Worldwide there is currently only one club with more members, which surprisingly is Benfica Lisbon with 224 000 club members. The second largest club in Germany is Schalke 04 with currently 110 000 members. Barcelona currently has 170 000 club members.

This means they finally overtook Benfica Lissabon, who can lay claim to 235 000 members, as biggest sports club of the world.
FC Barcelona occupies rank 3 with 177 246 members.
SChalke are currently number 4 with 129 672 members, followed by Borussia Dortmund with 115 000 and FC Porto with 113 300 members.
