Well the thing about that is they do play more than one position so they can fill in. Example: Pranjic. Kroos can play anywhere in midfield just about and Tymo can play some CB as evidenced by this season.

This makes the squad looks bigger than it is, it will be much better and more convincing if players are selected for one natural position.

Say for example Pranjic Natural position is left wing and he should be selected for that position only, although we know he can debut as left back in emergency situation, personally I think this will give the true strength of the team

Also Rafinha isn't a left back, his a right back and Lahm s Original and preferred position is left back, which the board has already confirmed he'll be moved to

What about making two lists? 1st, a list where each player shows only once in the main position and a 2nd list where they are listed with all possible positions?

Jullich? I heard he's good but I always thought the Bundesliga was a HUGE step up from 3. Bundesliga.

Rafinha at left back? Never heard of it.

How is Breno doing?

Well, Müller did that step up, too. With some it works, with others maybe not. So why not Jüllich, too?

About Breno... Somehow he never lived up to expectations at Bayern so far. He was quite good in Nürnberg (on loan) until he got injured.

Probably because Van Gaal never did any defensive training... not only did Breno not step up, Badstuber was off form, Lahm wasn't God and Van Buyten... oh god.

And suddenly that LvG was gone, even Buyten looked good again, it was shocking. Poor Demichelis. Maybe he is really a good defender after all?

I remember de 2007-2008 season when Bayern set their defensive record. Lucio-Demichelis combination was a frakking wall. Of course, we also had Sagnol the Great, but you just don't switch off class like that.

Demichelis was always good, just not used well by Van Gaal, plus the Batman mask he used probably cursed him Very Happy.

It's for this reason I kind of want to see how good our defenders will perform with a new coach (one who actually does defensive training).

I can already see, we'll get Boateng or someone else, and have to get rid of Breno or Badstuber, probably to another big European club. They'll flourish and become one of the best defenders in the world, and help some team either beat us in the title race (such as Hummels) or beat us in some major final (such as Lucio).

But at the same time, I don't think we can risk them flopping and being stuck with what we have during the season. Hmm, it's such a conundrum... affraid

PS these new smileys are very interested :lol!:

I think with proper coaching and a fitting partner, Badstuber can actually become pretty good. We definitely shouldn't throw him out.

I'd sell Breno but not Badstuber. He's even being called up to the NT now and is improving. But really, I wouldn't sell Breno either, unless we make at least 2 CB signings.

I will sell Badstuber and keep Breno, Van Gaal had little faith in Breno compare to Badstuber and that matters a lot in players confidence.

Badstuber featured in all matches last season, Van Gaal even went as far as saying he'll always play but for him to suck this bad, I just hope he improve under Jupp, cos I haven't seen any improvement.

Personally what I have seen is that Breno needs confidence, a manager that will trust him rather than try him.

Lets give Both of them another chance, but we still need at least one Center Back as we have only 3 CBs at the moment

I think the defense will improve greatly in general as soon as they start training to defend, something that obviously didn't really fit into Van Gaal's game plan.

Alright I'll upadte the lists with only 1 position per player plus position swaps (Rafinha&Lahm)

Also I have a ton of faith that Badstuber will become WC. However I have never seen enough of Breno that would convince me that he is really good. If we buy 2 CB's he will be the first to go.

I just can't wait until Jüllich gets promoted, I'm sure he would do great in BL, and will gain some experience..

So far, the 2011/2012 squad, of course without the pending transfers would be something like: (I would add some hope)

Goalkeepers:

1 - Manuel Neuer
22 - Hans-Jörg Butt
-- Rouven Sattlmaier

Defenders:

21 - Philip Lahm (LB, Captain)
5 - Daniel van Buyten (CB)
2 - Breno (CB)
13 - Rafinha (RB)
26 - Diego Contento (LB)
28 - Holger Badstuber (CB)
-- Nicolas Jüllich (RB, to be promoted)

Midfielders:

44 - Anatoliy Tymoshchuk (DM)
31 - Bastian Schweinsteiger (CM)
39 - Toni Kroos (CM, LM, CAM)
7 - Frank Ribéry (LM)
23 - Danijel Pranjic (LM)
10 - Arjen Robben (RM)
30 - Luiz Gustavo Diaz (DM/LWB)

Forwards:

33 - Mario Gomez (CF)
9 - Nils Petersen (CF)
11 - Ivica Olic (SS/CF)
13 - Thomas Müller (SS/CAM)

The above squad is not complete.
We still need at least one CB, and one cover on the right for Robben.

But no worries, most of our players are versatile.. what we really need is one CB.

and to be completely honest, a partnership between Boateng and Badstuber will never win us the Champions League. We need more experienced Center Back.

Starting XI so far:

Neuer
Rafinha-van Buyten-Badstuber-Lahm
Schweinsteiger-Gustavo
Robben-Müller-Ribéry
Gomez

I could swear that if Bayern sell either Badstuber or Breno this can turn out to be another Hummels situation

yes Van Gaal and Klinsmann have done "some" damage^^

Hummels was sold from the FCB reserve team.
He played only one game with the FCB senior team, and thats the difference.

Breno and Badstuber already was given fair chances, I don't blame them though, they are still young..
I blame the defensive strategies of van Gaal, and the his stupid ego that he couldn't make any changes with the squad and bring some experienced defenders to partner Breno/Badstuber.. on their way for improvement..

But till now, none of them been impressing, maybe on some occasions.. but they are not the quality that we need.

What defensive strategies? Wasn't Van Gaal's philosophy "Defense is for wusses"?

I think with some proper defense training at last, Badstuber can develop nicely.
