It is due to be played on the 31st of August and is between us and Atletico Madrid.

Anyway, the reason I started this thread was because I am hearing reports that Courtois will be allowed to play in the match. Very interesting.

@Iszanto yh they have.... Valencia, Bilbao, Betis, Espanyol, Malaga etc its a pretty solid bunch of teams they have beat, pretty much the best teams outside the doupoly

Pathetico are very organised, usually Courtois has nothing to do in a game, expect them to sit back and counter like the EL final against Bilbao, they have pretty good wingers as well and they are very skillful and can get out of any pressurised situation. However they cross too much so if your defenders are good in the air they have a difficult time of creating good chances.

It's much more likley to be Falcao vs Cahill imo.

To me this game is down to our double pivot. If we play like Mikel/MRLSH played against Newcastle then I think we'll win, however if we struggle to get ahold of the midfield I think we'll have a big issue. Messi has done very well over the years against Atletico and i'm not saying he is as good but Hazard loves to take a man on and could be the one to win the game for us.

in fact Missi has had trouble playing good against Pathetico, their midfield plays very compact and don't let you breathe with the ball, so it has to go fast if you want to get past their midfield. Godin(CB) on the other hand could well possibly get a red card or hand you a penalty, the guy is that reckless, if you were to target anyone target him, both fullbacks are solid especially Filipe Luis and both wingers do alot of defensive work, long balls wouldn't be that bad if you want to get many clear cut chances b/c they have a hard time winning those aerial balls

What? He scores hattricks against them for fun if I remember the games correctly.

They are quite a decent team I used to watch them a bit back when Aguero was playing... But then Aguero filed a divorce against Chelsea by sleeping with MCFC.

@ Iszanto, different teams and coaches, the only one from 2010/2011 that starts now is Mario Suarez all others have left or retired and above all they have a better coach now. Not saying best team in the world but definitely a force to be reckoned


Since Simeone took over(New Year) they have only conceded 22 goals in all competitions and went 6 games without conceding and only lost 4 times in all competitions, imho the best team in Spain after Barca/Real

They only lost 2-1 against Barca, a game they should've won if it wasn't for their missed chances and an unsportsmanlike Missi freekick, they outplayed us until Ronaldo's two wonder goals that got us the win against them, the two other teams beat them are Levante and Mallorca both away
