Is 40m euros for javi martinez the most overpriced transfer ever?
He is a good player, no doubt about it. But 40 million? you have to be a game decider for that amunt, and he is Not.
I see nothing in javi martinez that can justify that price.

thats a ridiculous price. It will be on the same category as the Pastore/Lucas transfers, just good young players, nothing out of the ordinary.I also think its a pretty stupid investment, not only are they spending 40M on a defensive midfielder but they already have good dms on Gustavo/Kroos/Tymo/Schweinsteiger
Replacing either BADstuber or Boateng with Dante is a already a big improvement for their defense

Kaka was not depth..However they've made some overpriced depth transfers too..Coentrao comes to mind..
With that being said Martinez is not depth and will be a regular starter in Bayern's X1.He'll start ahead of Gustavo or play at CB ahead of Badstuber/Boateng

I don't think any Liverpool fan is saying Andy was or is worth £35m. That's what we had to pay on deadline day.
Javi Martinez, there's no such pressure on that deal.

Not as bad as Carroll or £30m for Modric.

Re: Is 40m euros for javi martinez the most overpriced transfer ever?
Sammer our sporting director is happy about the transfer, he regards the Spanish Euro Champion highly: "His build and charisma alone make him a figure in the middle of the field. He has great strategic skills, a strong passing game, is physically tough and is strong with headers.
The 40million Euro question has been answered. Who would have thought? Consider this: we managed to rip Martinez out from underneath the noses of the likes of Barca, Real-Madrid, Man United, or Man City. They managed to transfer a Spanish national player out of Spain into Germany, which is an achievement in itself. And they can afford this transfer, and the seemingly 'big clubs' can't any longer.
ITV are correct when they say that "his signing is a significant feather in the cap of the Bundesliga". This transfer will raise eye brows in England, Spain, and Italy, it will ruffle feathers. FCB has ventured into new territory, and not so much because of the amount of money we are talking about here.
I for my part am really looking forward to this guy playing in Munich, and I will be saying 'hallelujah' when I see the announcement on the FCB web site.

It is a bit high but I don't see a problem with it. Certainly a great signing for Bayern

This.
Also, there wasn't much competition recently over Martinez... seemed like most of the top clubs had lost interest once they realized how expensive he was going to be. Hadn't heard anything about Barca for over a month now, and the others for even longer.

No club buys a player for 40 million for depth. Even perennial over spenders Real Madrid don't do that (for them, they just buy so much that said player becomes "depth" eg. Kaka). Anyway, Martinez is gonna start and start regularly and to my knowledge, Athletic was very determine on making sure anyone who was interested needed to pay the full minimum release clause (which was 40 million if I recall).
A good player and a good signing but Bayern over paid for something they probably didn't necessarily need.

Lol Downing cost 15m less and he's not supposed to score goals anyway.
Carroll is and he's still only scored like 6 more.
Carroll is a worse signing by miles, i'm grateful for it though

Fernando Torres.
Not even one of his goals has made the slightest of difference to Chelsea.
at least Carroll scored a goal that sent us to a cup final.

Torres was equally bad no matter what Gil would possibly write. I still think Real Madrid beats all pissing contest and cock fights with the Kaka purchase when it comes to over pricing a player's services.

I don't know what to say I thought both Torres and Carrol were pretty good performance wise this year (2012)
But wait.
Gone are the days of the ridiculous Ander Subs and dropping him every other game, it's his team now
Ander and Camacho leading their respective teams next year
