FT: #mcfc 2-0 #afc Yaya & Zabaleta with the goals. Defensively weak from both sides, but great football on show & a good work-out.

Nothing to be ashamed about; we were easily the better team, particularly in the second half. First half I think we suffered from having no actual strikers, and obviously some stupid errors. Several of our youngsters have impressed me for sure!

Re: Pre-season 2012-13 Thread
This game was very "same old same old" from Arsenal's perspective.
Our defending from the first whistle was horrid. City's wing-backs and Yaya Toure were making late runs forward and none of our midfielders tracked them, and a lot of the time one pass forward cut out our whole midfield and found these late runners in our third with space and time to run at our back-line or even in behind our back-line.
The high-line really did not work, mostly because there was no pressure on the ball from us. Both full backs were often caught too high up or too narrow trying to apply pressure where the midfielders weren't.
Both of City's goals came from attacks down the left, both times because Jenkinson was too high or too narrow and Walcott didn't track back andd Gibbs was caught up too high as well.
It's tempting to say it's just pre-season, that we're still adapting to new defensive strategies and whatnot but these are problems that have been prevalent for years now. To see them come up again in pre-season is worrying.
Offensively it's more of the same. Good passing, decent movement, but little penetration. Today we actually had seven or eight really good attempts from distance, which was pleasing, but not many clear-cut opportunities on goal. Second half was better on that front because City dropped deeper to practice seeing a game out.
Overall, it's not time to panic but there are only two pre-season games left and it looks like we have a lot of issues to sort out.

Wenger should do something for the defence. Increased midfield cover, more full back discipline may be.
Aneke and Afobe are very good.

Miquel looked great when he came on, Oxlade-Chamberlain aswell. Don't get the Aneke hype, Afobe was played out of position, Chamakh being Chamakh (hardworking but unproductive), Eisfeld and Coquelin did fine.

Re: Pre-season 2012-13 Thread
Signing M'Vila isn't going to magically solve our lack of midfield cover. It's clearly a fault with the system, not the personnel.

Re: Pre-season 2012-13 Thread
specially in the 2nd half
But you have to keep in mind that City were playing their 4th Friendly and Arsenal their 2nd.
