Roma close to Merkel

Roma are reportedly on the verge of agreeing a deal with Genoa to sign midfielder Alexander Merkel.

Sky Sport Italia are suggesting that Zdenek Zeman’s side are closing in on the 20-year-old, who less than two weeks ago was described by Grifone CEO Pietro Lo Monaco as ‘untouchable’.

Genoa only gained full ownership of the Germany Under-20 international in May, after first signing him on a co-ownership deal from Milan a year ago, only to hand him back to the Rossoneri in January.

Merkel missed a majority of the season through injury, but remains a highly-regarded and versatile midfielder.

Thoughts?

i am happy for u guys if u guys get him. i wanted him to stay in milan but since we have finance problem merkel was let go in expense for el sharawwy who is equally talented.

i think he will be very good addition for you guys. he is a good promising kid and with right environment he could grow into a very good midfielder.

He i a decent addition , and i consider that a good defender there is also Uvini from sao paolo that i dont have any info on him other than 21 years old

Ehhh, would prefer to take another chance on Federico Viviani.

Merkel's a fantastic talent though and we're going to add him to our squad then he needs to see time.

But I don't think he'll interfere with Viviani's time. Viviani would most definitely slot into that regista role in front of the defence. Merkel I think would be used alongside him as an "intermedio" (sorry, I only know that term in Italian lol, a supporting midfielder in a way). I think he would be more in contention with Pjanic.
