Italian PM suggests Serie A suspension
http://football-italia.net/19346/italian-pm-suggests-serie-suspension
Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti has suggested that Serie A should be suspended for two to three years, in reaction to the latest match-fixing scandal.
Several players were arrested on Monday as part of police raids across the country and homes and offices searched as the investigations into a betting probe in the peninsula accelerates.
When asked his opinion on the scandal that has hit Italy’s Euro 2012 preparations, Monti [pictured above in the centre] offered a drastic solution.
“It's particularly sad when a world which should be an expression of the highest values - sport, youth, competition, fairness turns out to be a mass of foul play, falsehood and demagoguery,” the 69-year-old told reporters on a trip to Poland, one of the co-hosts for this summer’s UEFA tournament.
“I’m not making a proposal, much less one that comes from government, but it is a desire that sometimes - even though I was very passionate about football so many years ago - I feel inside me - if it would help, then for two or three years it might be an idea to have a total suspension of the game.”

This is quite ridiculous. I agree that the corrupt environment in Serie A needs to change, but for the PM of what can be a fairly corrupt government shouldn't be making this call.
Maybe he's an Inter fan and figures that Inter won't be good for 2 or 3 years anyways.

not just league it will collapse their economy horribly!! apart from fashion, automobile industry, food, tourism, football is one of the biggest and most noted by people all over the world.
he is just implying this as a wake up call he cant do that ofcourse, people will go absolutely rioting everywhere if that will happen.
but seriously this really need to stop for italy, they are loosing lot of credibility with this kind of scandal.

Sorry, that was more of a reference to Italian politics in general, not Monti. I'm sorry, but Italian politics are pretty well known around the world for being a corrupt place.

You have a certain football club owned by the same man that own a huge amount of news stations and on top of that is leading the entire country as prime minister.. Just exactly how is it possible to keep politics separated from sports in a situation like this?

Italian politics are very corrupt. This translates very strongly into calcio.
Re: Italian PM suggests Serie A suspension
Stupid Stupid Stupid suggestion.
This would bury Serie A and condemn it to being a mediocre league AT BEST. We would lose all our star players and financial revenues, as well as any prestige our league has left.
Horrible idea... just about the opposite of what we need. We need to rehabilitate our image, not ruin it further. We just need stricter regulations, overseeing and punishments.
