It wasn't really that important.

Chelsea were going through anyway. All it did was relieve the pressure for the final minute or so.

Fair point. Don't get me wrong. It was certainly important.
However, it was not the "justification of the 50 million pounds and a year of profligacy" that some pundits are already claiming. You were going through without that goal, and it was a relatively easy finish even for Torres.
