I can't even say for certain whether United would go out or not. For starters, United is a team that has a nasty habit to always end up pulling through. On the other hand, Athletic at the San Mames is a force to be reckon with.

Ferguson came out and said that they don't care about the Europa League much because the games are on Thursdays, and it's a distraction for the weekend premiership games.

Now, I don't believe him. A club as highly regarded as Manchester United should/won't ever be seen giving less than 100%.

I think he's just saying that to save face in case they get eliminated.
