Yeah, even the players slowed the play down in amazement.

Re: La Selección Argentina
I agree with a lot of this. messi pls carry us to victorydanyjr wrote:Problem wasn't Banega, problem was our chemistry, from back to front. I can't see how Gago would have done better if he had a few counter attacking options up front with everyone else completely out of his reach? Or a bunch of full backs you don't really want to trust with the ball...
Our defence was shit to be honest, people get excited about the countless numbers of 'heroic' last ditch tackles we made and put it down to great defending. No, if we were good at defending we didn't have to make those tackles in the first place. Honestly how many corners did Rojo give away (same with Peruzzi)? We couldn't clear simple balls and we made Caicedo look like Drogba.
I hate to say it but if we make to World Cup semi-finals I'll donate one of my kidneys. I really can't see it with this non-existent midfield. Perhaps we should convince Riquelme to come back.
Also I really liked Lamelas cameo, he should be the first sub on the field, and the backup to higuain/aguero. doesnt have the pressing that lavezzi brings though, I dont see sabella preferring lamela over him.
Sabella needs to call up better volantes to protect the shaky defense, like Yacob, Cerro and I liked what I saw of Diego Mateo
Good news: Rojo will miss the friendly against Italy on August 14th due to injury. Ansaldi pls
Also some possible squad fillers I think that could have a good season next year at a new club:
- Nacho Scocco for Internacional
- Chucky Ferreyra for Shaktar
- Icardi for Inter
- Pareja for Sevilla
- Angeleri for Malaga
- Peruzzi for Sunderland
- Biglia for Lazio
- Cirigliano for Hella Verona

Re: La Selección Argentina
LM Peruzzi won't be going to Sunderland, Di Canio said he has fitness issues and its too much of a risk.
Can't say i'm unhappy about it lol.

Can't say I'm displeased he's not going either, don't want any of our players coached by Di Canio

Re: La Selección Argentina
Here is the squad (looks like international players only until domestic players are announced)
Goalkeepers:
Sergio ROMERO
Mariano ANDUJAR
Oscar USTARI
Defenders:
Hugo CAMPAGNARO
Federico FERNANDEZ
Pablo ZABALETA
Fabricio COLOCCINI
Cristian ANSALDI
Jose BASANTA
Ezequiel GARAY
Midfielders:
Javier MASCHERANO
Angel DI MARIA
Ever BANEGA
Augusto FERNANDEZ
Lucas BIGLIA
Erik LAMELA
Ricardo ALVAREZ
Forwards:
Lionel MESSI
Rodrigo PALACIO
Gonzalo HIGUAIN
Ezequiel LAVEZZI
No Sergio AGUERO as he is recovering from an injury.
Great squad, I have no complaints really, except Sabella's continued faith in Basanta for some reason.

Re: La Selección Argentina
Solid list. Very solid. Ansaldi, Lamela, no Di Santo or Rojo (who is injured, I believe).
My only complaints are Augusto Fernandez and no Caballero. But there is little to complain about.
Also the fact that we only called up 4 forwards for 3 positions makes me think that Scocco has very good chances for a call up. But now that he is playing in Brazil, is he no longer considered "domestic"?

Re: La Selección Argentina
Gago now plays for Boca so he would be considered part of the "domestic" crowd that gets called up later.

Re: La Selección Argentina
very few complaints from me, but tbh I would've very much liked to see Icardi Insua Yacob and Willy in there, at this point I feel there is very little chance for them to make the WC, unless Icardi explodes. I do like the ricky call up, he would most likely be better than montillo. hopefully he will play.

Re: La Selección Argentina
4 years younger than Buffon, who remains one of the best in his position.

Re: La Selección Argentina
I respectfully disagree. Buffon is getting far too much credit for his past these days and does too many mistakes for my liking. If his name was not Buffon, would he even get called up for Italy national team? I very much doubt that.
Re: La Selección Argentina
Would you make the same statement of Buffon at 31 though? Or Cech right now? Being over 30 is not that detrimental for keepers, and he is definitely better than Romero, Andujar and Ustari. The 3 keepers called should be Willy, Saja and Romero.

Re: La Selección Argentina
That's a fair argument. I would actually snatch Cech with both hands and wouldn't let go if he was Argentine. Buffon...not so much.
To be fair I haven't really watched Caballero, but I feel most people have been over hyped by his performances against BVB without regularly watching him. I was too, but where's this guy been all these years...super late bloomer like Diego López?

Re: La Selección Argentina
he was arguably the best performing goalkeeper in the world last season in both Liga and CL. He has been top notch since he joined Malaga 2 seasons ago, he's certainly in his prime now. I don't see what more he can do to earn a spot. I don't mind his age, it's pretty normal for a keeper to being playing at his best into his 30s. He's definitely not for the future though, 2014 is his last chance to play for the NT.
I'm really disappointed he wasn't called up, because Sabella is supposedly rotating a lot for this upcoming friendly and it could have been a chance for Willy to prove himself. Either way I think Sabella has too much faith in Romero to change the keeper for the world cup

Re: La Selección Argentina
I've been saying for a long time that this sunmer Ansaldi would switch teams as his contract expires in 2014. Unfortunately for his fans, it ks to another Russian team. He has been transferred to Zenit for 6m euros.

Re: La Selección Argentina
Shame he stayed in the russian league,I think he could do well in any league tbh. its strange there wasnt much demand for him. Zenit is an ambitious team though so that is good.
also he should be a starter for sure against italy

Kun Aguero offered to buy 5 players for relegation-threatened Independiente, and pay wages, but nobody from the club got back to him.
