Re: La Selección Argentina
I heard he wants to play Campagnaro in a fullback role(or at least, he said at first look he thought of him as playing as a full back). I think garay should start regardless.
I hope we'll have a better idea by the end of tomorrow's training session

Re: La Selección Argentina
Maybe im a little harsh, but is Cata Diaz not just a hatchet man?
I mean, I have seen him put in some decent performances, even against Barca. But he has little real talent from what it seems and he gets by with shirt pulling, tactical fouls and physical intimidation rather then his actual skill.
In the end, such tactics get found out at the highest levels and I would be rather surprised if he became the a key piece in the Argentine backline.

Re: La Selección Argentina
The latest rumors forecast this team:
Romero
Zabaleta - Cata Diaz - Garay - Campagnaro
Sosa - Mascherano - Brana - Salvio
Messi - Kun
But they are quick to add that these are just rumors and that the only certain thing is that the coach will play a 4-4-2

Campagnaro leftback...what other options are there in the squad?
That midfield looks so weak.

Re: La Selección Argentina
Now the team is rumored to be
Romero
Campagnaro- Garay - Fernández - Zabaleta
Sosa - Braña - Masche - Maxi Rodríguez
Messi - Kun
Substitute the entire midfield bar Masche and I think we're on to something lol
In his defense both Banega and Di Maria are injured, I'd like to think they would replace Brana and Maxi if they were fit. Sosa though

Re: La Selección Argentina
Sabella
Why is he trying to integrate his mediocre former Estudiantes players when there are so many better choices(even in this very ordinary squad call up)?
Sometimes I think it's better we get a foreign coach so they would be completely neutral in who they call up.
Sosa is the pinnacle of mediocrity. If you're going to call him up from an unknown team(Metalist) rather than say Ansaldi, who plays for a recognized Russian team that year after year competes in the CL, then something is definitely wrong.
the only thing that is okay about the formation is the backline(which actually looks pretty solid, albeit slow). But even then, it is not very dynamic and because of the slow full backs, might be better sitting back and counter attacking with hoof ball.I don't really want to see Argentina play like that.
Maxi is completely past it but I don't mind his inclusion(who can forget his memorable volley against Mexico in WC 2006). I don't think he should be starting though. My formation, in a 4-4-2, given the called up squad:
------------Romero----------
-Zabaleta/Campagnaro-Garay--Fernandez--Monzon
-Salvio--Gago-------Masch-------Lamela------
---------Messi-------Kun------------
This is okay but we can do so much better with the full backs...Pillud at RB and Ansaldi at LB would make this a great team on paper.
Doesn't make sense predicting lineups now because our recent coaches have their favourites who add absolutely nothing to our team. One could only dream

Re: La Selección Argentina
Argentina XI vs. Switzerland: Romero; Campagnaro, Fernandez, Garay, Zabaleta; Rodriguez, Braña, Mascherano, Sosa; Aguero, Messi.
Switzerland Starting XI (4-4-1-1): Benaglio; Lichtsteiner, Senderos, Affolter, Rodriguez; Shaqiri, Inler, Dzemaili, Frei; Xhaka; Mehmedi.
God help us

Re: La Selección Argentina
Garay and Campag were good, Fernandez was sloppy, Zabaleta was okay.
Messi, once again, the best player on the pitch with the Argentina shirt. He's the 5th all time top scorer now for Argentina!
Brana screwed up too many times, Gago must start over him.
Maxi and Sosa were shit mostly as expected.
Kun was great, almost had a great goal but was denied by some great goal keeping. His movement dribbles and link up play with Messi was superb! Higuain is out of form again so Aguero and Messi need to continue to start together.

I expect Di Maria to take Maxi's spot and Sabella has some sort of Estudiantes man crush on Sosa, so he's not going anywhere -_-
IMO I think we would do great with a 4-3-3 Messi-Higuain-Kun/Di Maria with a good creative midfielder: Pastore/Canteros(Velez)/Lamela(future)/ or some sort of Aimar type player.
Im still not sold on Masch in the midfield, I think he's not gonna get much minutes as a midfielder in Barca and should go into defense with Garay. Gago must start as you said. The last midfield spot could be Banega or Biglia

Re: La Selección Argentina
Phil Schoen of goltv was hyping Biglia too today during the match commentary hes been reading my posts?
Glad this Biglia campaign is getting somewhere!
I agree with you on Masche, Masche and Garay should be our starting CBs if not Campagnaro maybe.
I don't like Messi on the wing, I like him playing off of another striker like he does in a 442 the way he did against Chile and Switzerland today.

Re: La Selección Argentina
LM you have competition from the Cirigliano campaign going on in Argentina. He's a River player who looks like he might be a good DM in the nearby future, he's often compared with Mascherano but that's only because they're both River products. He's more technical than Javier but less defensively solid (although it would be hard to be better than Masche in that aspect). Anyways, just another name to keep out for. My own personal opinion is that until he plays in primera instead of segunda we won't know how good he really is.
About the match it's nice to see Messi take the team under his wing and really prove he's there when it matters. He needs to do away with his bad reputation amongst those that don't actually watch Argentina.
Sabella continues to call Estudiantes players: Sosa, Desabato (in the past), Fernandez, Brana and almost all of them have been disappointment. I hope he starts seeing past his familiarity with these players.
It was nice to see semblances of a defensively solid team in la seleccion. Garay was class. For the first time in a few years I bitched more about the midfield than the defense.
Maxi Rodriguez should retire from international football. Even Sosa was better than him.
I thought it was interesting that Gago was the only change at half time, maybe he's debating between Brana and Gago as his main DM?

Re: La Selección Argentina
Maxi was far too slow with his decision making and he was just out of depth compared to everyone else. Can't wait to see us playing with our full strength squad. Manita against Brasil anyone?

Re: La Selección Argentina
My main problem with the match (and the formation, really) is that Messi is the only creative source of the game. Neither Masche nor Gago/Brana provided much in this aspect, and both wingers were awful so we might as well have played without them. This might change with Di Maria, but unless Gaitan replaces Sosa (looks unlikely) we are going to be far too predictable for the big boys.

Re: La Selección Argentina
Apparently Messi gave lamela his boots which he is going to wear for Roma today. Good to see that their relationship is looking good right now.
In other news, many clubs are looking at Matias Suarez of Anderlect, including Arsenal, Manchester city/ United and I think even Barca were looking at him

Matias Suarez is decent, I don't know if he could play straight away for a top club like the ones that are looking at him, but he has potential.
