Re: Wenger is old
people already knew that milan's pitch would be like this lol
there were videos all round the net about the state of milan's pitch and lets face it these are the things which give a team advantage at home, you have to capitalise on the advantages they give you and if youre the away team minimise those perks gained by the home team.

Right.............and how would we do that when the wings were covered in giant craters?aleumdance wrote:tactics: press, hit erm on counter..rinse and repeat
Coquelin at LB? Why, when there's a fully fit Gibbs at your disposal? Coquelin is suddenly a better LB than Gibbs?
Walcott and Ox? Why? Both of their greatest assets are speed (and control in the Ox's case) Again, what good is that going to do when the wings are rendered unplayable?
It's so easy to sit in your Laz-E boy and make up dreamy scenarios of how things should have gone down, it's another thing to actually be there and be put under pressure

izzy wrote:The Franchise wrote:It wasnt Rambo's fault, he was playing in an advanced position. Song and Arteta just couldnt get the ball to him enough because Milan outnumbered them. They protect the center too well.
I feel Milans midfield was there to be got at. Arsenal however focused soley on wing-play and pace and whenever the ball came into the midfield they were outnumbered. Milans midfiled was never pressured and allowed easy distribution of the ball to Ibra to conduct the whole game.
Well, I agree you could of pressed them. I think that was a mistake.
But in terms of your attack, the wings where the best place to attack. You cant beat Milan through the center once they get back, Barca couldnt. They have a back 4 who get narrow and 3 men protecting. The middle really is hard to get through.
Also, on the wings you have 2 v 1. So it made some sense.

The wings were not unplayable. The pitch was poor in those areas but hardly unplayable

Re: Wenger is old
Wenger has weaknesses but in the right atmosphere they don't stand out.
Considering all the work he has to do off the pitch one can empathise with him in that regard.

The Franchise wrote:I have to say, I dont think the pitch was much of a factor.
If the ball went out wide and it got stuck up, then I would buy that theory. But Arsenal didnt even get the time to get the ball out wide.
When the got the ball, they were quite direct with the passing and tried to get it to RVP quite early. Thiago Silva was excellent at reading and getting in front of him for that.
Maybe I could be convinced otherwise, but I didnt really see the pitch being a factor.
I think the pitch got to the Arsenal players (mentally) and keep in mind Milan had to play on the same pitch and they seemed to move the ball down the flanks just fine. Complain about the pitch all you want, but Milan is not the first team (and won't be the last) to alter their pitch according to what team they are set to play; that's why it's called home-field advantage. Arsenal just looked lethargic and Milan's defense (especially Silva) played a great game. When Milan lost the ball they looked to press and forced Arsenal into some silly turnovers, are we going to blame the pitch for that as well. I've definitely lost some respect for certain Arsenal supporters after some of the whining I just read. Milan played a brilliant game and the ball movement impressed me; Ibra and Boateng have a great chemistry and Robinho has great passing to go along with his wonderful decision making. I'm not sure where this Milan has been all season.

Re: Wenger is old
Substitute tough with significant/crucial
BTW I think motivational videos should be for fans only. Things like these are not more beneficial than making the players understand their roles on the pitch in big games.
