I hope's that's the last we've seen of him in a Roma jersey.Honestly if I see him on the pitch again I'll just turn of the TV of and check the fulltime result.

I haven't been watching Roma recently, what's been wrong with him? I mean it takes something special to stand out for being bad in your back four. :lucas:

trololol
Not at all sure what's up with him honestly. It's like he's the exact opposite of the player that emerged with Palermo. His positioning is shoddy, nervy on the ball, clumsy as all get-out in the tackle and just doesn't read the game as well as he can. The only positives are that he's still got that ability to play the ball out of the back from time to time and proved in this game that he can be a bit of an aerial threat.
Unfortunately for Kjaer....the negatives far outweigh the positives.

I personally felt he started well when I watched Roma at the beginning of the season, it's a pity that this dive in form has occured, however given his age I'd give him a chance to improve.
If Barzagli can play so well after being as useful as a limp vegetable in Germany then anyone can turn it around.

Re: Kjaer
Agreed, Dosto.
Still not ready to give up on him. Easy to forget that he's still only 22. He still has plenty of time to fulfill his massive potential.
Will he do this with Roma? Tough to say at this point.

Re: Kjaer
Barzagli was a total beast in the Wolfsburg title run, in his defense. Then the usual managerial Bundesliga games, Wolfsburg selling half its team and being generally crap kicked in. But Barzagli was never that useless.dostoevsky wrote:I personally felt he started well when I watched Roma at the beginning of the season, it's a pity that this dive in form has occured, however given his age I'd give him a chance to improve.

So, yeah. Let's not judge players by their Wolfsburg form, because Wolfsburg is a mess of a club.

Re: Kjaer
Whenever I watched Wolfsburg in their second season Barzagli seemed to be constantly at fault for every goal they conceded, however I may have just been watching particularly damning matches given that I watch German football but not week in, week out. To be fair to both him and Kjaer though, neither provided the necessary compliment to each other's games and as you said the rest of the team did little to aid their efforts.

Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has defended under-fire stopper Simon Kjaer from growing criticism.
The Denmark international joined the Giallorossi on a loan deal from Wolfsburg in the summer after Sabatini had previously signed him for Palermo.
The centre-back, however, has struggled to deliver his potential and he’s been blasted by fans and pundits.
“Kjaer is like a player who people are trying to knock down and they’ve almost succeeded,” the official noted on Thursday. “The Kjaer I brought to Roma was different.
“After his dismissal in the derby against Lazio, he entered a dark tunnel which is leading to some insecurity and mistakes.
“We have to protect him,” added Sabatini. “It’s getting tough though, there is a kind of conspiracy against him and his errors are highlighted by all.”
The transfer guru also responded to concerns about the minimal impact of fellow new boys Jose Angel and Bojan Krkic.
“Jose Angel started well which gave us hope, he’s slowed down a little but he’ll return,” Sabatini assured.
“As for Bojan, he has scored one goal more than Mirko Vucinic and four more than Marco Borriello [the two former Roma players now at Juventus].
“He’s a player of worth. He’s found less space than he expected and he’s paid the price for Fabio Borini’s good form, but there are a few months of the season remaining...”
Sabatini also confirmed today that he’d like to stay at Roma once his one-year deal expires in the summer.

Re: Kjaer
I said not too long ago that I think we shouldn't pick up our option on Kjaer at the end of this season. But, I was just listening to Radio IES and they said something which made sense. Yes, Kjaer has been having a terrible season, but let's keep in mind in what kind of system he's currently playing. At Palermo, most of the time he played in a 3-man backline with a lot of coverage by their midfielders. In that system, he played extremely well, especially given how young he was. With Wolfsburg, he was in a 4-man backline and was more exposed, thus showing some of his weaknesses. Now, at Roma, he plays in a virtually 2-man backline, with the fullbacks spending most of their time in the opposing end and only getting a bit of help from one between De Rossi and Gago. It's obvious that players like Giaccherini are going to break through so easily, given that we're left completely exposed for a number of reasons. I would like to see Kjaer play in a team with an actual backline and defensive strategy just to see exactly how he could hold his own. Unfortunately, we're going to need a number of acquisitions this summer to ensure that, after which Kjaer may or may not still be on our team.

I honestly can't picture him fitting into any top team atm. With Juve, I think he might encounter some of the same problems he's encountering here (maybe a little less since he would be supported by the likes of Chiellini, Barzagli and co).
Sure, we're being harsh on him since he's been our biggest flop so far this season. But of course, he's not entirely to blame for his own downfall.

He's Agger's successor in the Danish National Team...give him time, he's still got massive potential and just needs a perfect partner.

Isn't Agger himself still fairly young? 26 or thereabouts?
If anything, Kjaer is likely to be his defensive partner back there if he can get back to form.

Re: Kjaer
Agreed with ErPupone ..
Another point they forgot to mention is the constant change in the central back that completely ruined Kjaer's chance to form any strong defensive partnership.I think we all realize in order to have a solid defense you first must have two stable central backs, and if LE continues this approach of rotating and switching all the time it will be very difficult to get to system of play that is equally balanced.

Rossi: ‘Kjaer is the best’
By Football Italia staff
Fiorentina boss Delio Rossi has defended under-fire Roma stopper Simon Kjaer from mounting criticism.
The Dane joined the Giallorossi in the summer on a loan deal from Wolfsburg, but he’s had his problems with form.
However, Rossi, who bossed the centre-back at Palermo, has underlined that the international has quality.
“He’s the best defender that I have ever coached,” the Viola tactician told the Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday.
“He has exceptional qualities and he’s unbeatable in one-on-one situations.
“You can have bad seasons, but the player can’t be doubted because he is an element who offers guarantees.
“He has quality, he’s flexible and, importantly, he’s on first name terms with the ball.”
It’s unclear at this time whether the Italian club will take up their option to sign the 22-year-old outright in the summer.
---------------------------------------
He knows this guy better than any coach out there. It's not at all too late for us to see that Kjaer again. I'm keeping the faith still.

Re: Kjaer
:lol!: Market Rome, Kjaer promises a return to Wolfsburg
:lol!:
Simon Kjaer , on loan from Wolfsburg to Rome, probably at the end of the season will return to the Bundesliga. The defender has not completely convinced and the price of his ransom , 7 million, is considered too high.
If the German company is unwilling to renew the loan, the Danish defender will definitively leave the capital.

he has weak positioning , he doesn't have any clue about tackling and his only Strength is blocking the ball , well that a big pile of stone can do as well (might even do a better job)

Re: Kjaer
Roma to extend Kjaer loan?
By Football Italia staff
Roma will reportedly ask Wolfsburg if they can extend Simon Kjaer’s loan spell in the Italian capital.
The centre-back joined the Giallorossi until June 2012 for €3m, with an option to buy him outright at the end of the campaign for a further €7m.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, Roma would like another 12 months to assess the stopper’s suitability.
Kjaer has had a problematic season on his return to Italian football following a past with Sicilian giants Palermo.
Kjaer has struggled for form and he’s only made 16 Serie A appearances for Luis Enrique’s side so far this term.
Sporting director Walter Sabatini, who worked with the Dane at the Rosanero, wants to give the player another chance before making a definite decision on his future.
