Yes, they have great, probably best attack currently. But their defence is probably the worst. You can't win big games without adequate defence.

Argentina steamrolled the WC10 until against Germany, when you saw the quality difference with good and bad defences. I mean Demichelis, Burdisso and Heinze against Germany. That's probably the biggest mismatch since polish cavarly tried to run through German armored division in WW2.

I partly agree with jiopsi and billion million, he hasn't flopped but he actually has been preforming worse then barca. Even his dribbling/finishing is not as good. It's a mental thing

I'll try to stay simple and logical. Who are the players he plays with?

Banega, Zanetti, Cambiasso, Pastore, Mascherano...
In attack, Aguero, Tevez, Milito, Di Maria, Higuain etc.

Not too shabby for a midfield or attack? England could only dream of such a lineup.

Assume Messi performs well for NT then he should be scoring a considerable amount of goals with those not so shabby guys but apparently, he doesn't

Assume, the coach sucks and doesn't know how to utilize him. Did he have only one coach over long periods of time? The answer is no!

Last but not least, if Argies' defence sucks and they can't win big tournaments it isn't Messi's fault but if they fail to score over and over again, he is at least partially a NT flop


Conclusion, Lionel Messi is still a NT flop ( may change in future)
