Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has voiced his opinion that selfishness is not necessarily a bad characteristic on the pitch.

The Netherlands international has received his fair share of criticism in the past couple of months for not passing the ball, but the 27-year-old feels that his individual actions are one of his biggest strengths.

"Attackers have to be selfish on the pitch occasionally, but it's important not to exaggerate," Robben was quoted as saying by Kicker.

"Forwards do a lot of things intuitively. I play like that, and so does [Franck] Ribery. Our unpredictability is one of our strengths. Selfishness is a quality and not necessarily a bad thing."

Robben has made only eight Bundesliga appearances so far this term due to injury, scoring four goals in the process.

Thoughts? Robben can indeed be selfish, but he's never going to let a clear goal oportunity be clouded by selfishness, and he does have a hell of a pass.

but being selfish breeds ego and see how its working for CR7

when Messi plays for argentina, he has problems cuz sometimes he gets too selfish with the ball

Being selfish works out when you actually have a very productive output hence why Cristiano is pretty much tolerated. I probably could say the same for Robben as well. When those two players output starts to decline with the same amount of selfishness, you'll basically see how fast both players would become an annoyance.

And I have always preferred Cristiano over Robben and would continue to do so...

Not really. I'd prefer someone who is balanced. Too much of something is bad, but balance is just perfect.

Someone tell Robben that he doesn't have to be selfish anymore, this current side is miles ahead of the squad two years ago in terms of talent.

He ain't, man. The only glaringly selfish thing Robben does is his signature cut in, left foot rocket which works too damn well to drop. Apart from that, he actually tracks back a lot and has a killer pass.

For me I have maintained that Messi is numero uno in attacking terms, and a fit Robben is second only to Messi on the ball.
