Only Messi can do it (in history of football)
Changing his direction while running at speed. yes there are players who kick the ball and run after it. but can any player do it with the ball at his feet? in this example there is about 1 centimeter distance between messi's foot and the ball when he changes his direction at speed. he changes direction and gets past nesta without reducing his speed. he makes it look so easy but if you analyze in details you can see that probably nobody in history of football could do that. at 0:05 of this video
really playstation, isnt it?

if only he scored, would have been a great CL goal, right up there with the one against madrid(which is probably the best)

This is why his goal against Madrid in El Bernabeu is very impressive.

Nothing to do with luck. Without us, he likely wouldnt be the player he is today.

George Best and roby Baggio. Garrincha also could change direction with very small touches. Of course my user name as well. Messi is not the only player who could do this

Messi is easily the best dribbler, ever.

Re: Only Messi can do it (in history of football)
Baggio is an irrelevant name. Has he ever got past 3 players? messi at very avarage dribbling (in jiopsi's sig) puts 4 players behind. and its all about balance and direction changes (as if somebody is driving a car among madrid players). Baggio's dribbling style was not enough to tear teams apart and it definitely was not "changing directions at speed"Diego Armando Maradona wrote:George Best and roby Baggio. Maradona is the closest thing but even he was not doing it as fast as messi

Actually baggio many times dribbled past 3 or more players, but not as good as messi, im just saying though he had a similar style to messi, messi is not unique in how he changes direction.
If you ask me Best was not the greatest player, but he was the best dribbler. Messi is quite similar to him, but Best could do all of messi's moves but with both feet, making him better balanced and more unpredictable than messi
Dribbling = Best > Messi > Maradona > Baggio
Most talented = Maradona > Messi > Best > Baggio

Not CR. R9. Just look at his 98 highlists, barca fan boys, especially at his WC98 performance, something messi just dreams.

So by watching highlights of the wc98 you came to the conclusion R9 is as good a dribbler as Messi?zece wrote:Lionel Messi wrote:This is what the average Madridista actually believeszece wrote:Ronaldo.

Ronaldo fenomeno was probably one of the most explosive dribbler of all time, next to guys like Kaka or Romario. But he couldnt turn, weave in and out like Messi does. He was a power runner, would skin anyone next to him, but he wasnt as good changing directions the way Messi does.

Other than Maradona.........maybe Zico and Garrincha?
Players have had similar talents......most haven't systematically exploited them as well as Messi has over the years.

Re: Only Messi can do it (in history of football)
pele is seriously underrated in terms of dribbling,he was as good as messi, maradona and zico
i think people see pele mostly as goalscoring beast, but he wasnt just that,he was a better version of CR
( and yes,ive seen a lot of pele matches, mostly from the WCs)

Re: Only Messi can do it (in history of football)
Pele was similar to Baggio, dribbling in standing position or in slow walking mode. Can not say anything about Zico, i saw his few dribbling moments on the net. he was mostly all about goals. Watching his few dribblings i think he is similar to kaka. But really he was probably best striker ever, people only watched r9 here. but zico can score from any situtation
on topic we are talking about
- changing directions at speed (not in standing or walking position)
- the ball must stick to your feet while doing it (not kicking and running after it).
- get past at least 3 players using this method
Required: Balance, Gravity, Technically great touches
one example in this video (no trick required)
He can even turn back while running, anybody did it before?
another example (a little trick required)
he keeps his balance greatly and tricks defender on the line without thinking or reducing his speed
