Van der Wiel agrees personal terms with Valencia

Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel revealed that he has agreed personal terms with Valencia over a contract that will run until the summer of 2017.

Ajax recently turned down Valencia's first offer for the right-back, but they did give the Primera Division outfit permission to talk with the 23-year-old.

Although both clubs are still in talks over a transfer fee, the Netherlands international has already completed negotiations with Valencia and will sign a five-year deal with los Che once they reach an agreement with the Eredivisie champions.

"The clubs are still negotiating, but I expect them to reach an agreement," Van der Wiel said to Eredivisie Live.

"I have already spoken with Valencia and have agreed terms. If everything goes according to plan, I will sign a five-year deal."

Van der Wiel added that he will definitely stay with Ajax until the end of the season and will not join Valencia until ahead of the 2012-13 campaign.

Why not? This is a great signing in my opinion. Van der Wiel has great potential and it will strengthen Valencia's backline tremendously... From having a horrible defence, Valencia will now have a really good one in VDW-Rami-Ruiz-Alba/Mathieu.

What is a La Liga type player? I thought that we had already smashed the usual stereotypes and that if you're good enough to succeed in one league, you're sure to succeed in the next. He's a defender. Defending is pretty similar everywhere.

hes more suited to a league that utilizes strength, physicality, and pace like epl.

sorry what i mean is i dont think he is disadvantaged to play at la liga (referring to the stereotype comment) but i do think he would be at an advantage to go where he can showcase his skill set more.

vdw is not a technical player imo. not at all.

Brilliant capture, if rumours are true. Currently, I'd rate him as the best young right back in the world, and he's light years better than Walker, who's currently all about pace.
