Why was Julien Faubert loaned to Madrid in 2009?

I think it's because Real Madrid needed a winger and Juande Ramos was looking at a lot of EPL players. Hence we also signed Lass.

I thought he was a right full back, but he hardly appeared for Madrid in the 6 or so months he was there, he had only one sub appearance if my memory serves me right.
