It's not the team. It's the stadium. Britannia. Cold night. Make it happen.
Madrid should abandon the Bernabeu and buy Britannia (transaction could easily be financed through Cristiano Ronaldo's sale).

Re: What would be the ideal 11/dream team to face Barca?
I think Bayern could try with their top 11. IMO they have majorly improved under Heynckes and with their great wide players Ribéry and Robben they might be able to succeed against Barca who concentrate more on the mid.
And I would definitely not use a wildly mixed up team from best players of different clubs as I think it is important that a team going against Barca know each other well and play with a blind understanding.

Hate to admit, but Inter of today is still best equip to stop Barca. They make us play worse than against Barca at the San Siro. We cannot score at all against them Lucio and Samuel stop everything especially Ibra, and we can score 2 against Barca and have more chances.

Re: What would be the ideal 11/dream team to face Barca?
You field any team, it won't matter. Barcelona are the ultimate big game team. They can lose 1-0 to Getafe or 2-0 to Hercules, but in a big game ? It's a difficult task.
In any case, i personally believe to beat barcelona, you have to play a possession based tactics, with players comfortable on the ball. Counter attack system on paper is great against barcelona, but rarely works. By rarely i mean it only works after the 70th minute and when barcelona are a goal up, not when you are a goal up. You take an early lead, you have already lost the tie. Complicated but thats how it is.
So first of all, IMO, you need to avoid hoofing the ball, or try 40 yard passes. you will 80% lose the ball unless you are stoke or Bilbao.
Playing from the back is dangerous against barcelona, but it's better than hoofing it from goal kick. The defenders need to be very composed and the midfielders should be possession specialist. The striker or strikers need to be as clinical as they can, and they also need to be comfortable on the ball, as in drop deep in midfield and play as the false 9.
If you are playing with wingers, they need to have fantastic stamina and the ability to make diagnol runs taking the marker with him while the midfielder goes into his place to create space in the trequarista range where the False 10 would be with the CB. This is a bit like total football but not orthodox
If we come to Formations, 4-2-3-1 won't work. 4-3-3(wide players ) won't work, 4-4-2 certainly wont work.
it has to be a system which can retain the ball without leaving space for Dani Alves, or for Cesc to make his lethal deep runs.
It will be laughed at , but Martinez' 3-5-1-1 formation, once again IMO, can work. Ofcoarse it can flop horribly but at least on paper in my mind, it can work. It can shift to 5-4-1 while defending as well.
The players i would Nominate for my formation
GK: Buffon
CB: Hummels
CB: Koscielny
CB: Silva
RM: Milner
CM: Banega
DM: DDR
CM: Arteta
LM: Wilshere
CAM/SS: David Silva
ST: Van persie
This is how it looks like
two wide men basically run up n down, DDR to help out the defence and spray passes to the wide men making runs. Banega n Arteta to keep the ball. David Silva to release it and Van persie to finish it.

Re: What would be the ideal 11/dream team to face Barca?
RG: Using a 3 man defense against Barca? It could work if your mezz'ale were wing backs, but neither Milner nor Wilshere fit that profile. I think the defense would get overcrowded by Barca's 3 forwards, which is why it's generally not advisable to use it unless it's against teams with only 2 forwards.
On this topic, beating Barca has a lot more to do with the pressing than with the names on the sheet. It's the style of the team that needs to be determined first, and then the names to go along it.

Re: What would be the ideal 11/dream team to face Barca?
You need to counter attack and be comfortable on the ball, but also need a CM who thrives under pressure/can handle it and shows up.
You also need a team that can pressure for 70 minutes.
You need Valencia. ()
Also RG your XI was PL biased haha... not really the best one out there

Thats why Milner n Wilshere are wide players. When barca are attacking, the formation is 5-4-1. the 3 CB's are positioned to stop the barca wide forwards to cut in while DDR is stopping messi from doing his false stuff.

Personally i prefer the heavy-pressing counter attacking style of Udinese..
Like in the game against Arsenal for example,if they had not bottled it in front of goal,Arsenal would have been buried 3-0 or 4-0..That is the exact tactics i would use against Barca.
