Tardelli crowns Marchisio

Claudio Marchisio is often compared to Marco Tardelli, but the Juventus legend claims “he is stronger than I was.”

The midfielder has become the unlikely hero of this season and their top scorer, though he received the highest praise from the current Republic of Ireland assistant manager.

“It’s difficult to compare players from the past and the present, but in my view he is stronger than I was,” Tardelli told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

More of the stars from that 1980s Juventus and Italy side also gave their backing to Marchisio.

“I always avoid comparisons, but Marchisio is Tardelli’s real heir,” said Fulvio Collovati.

Current Azzurri Coach Cesare Prandelli added Marchisio “has broken through. He has quantity, quality and now scores goals too. He’s fantastic.”

Deserved recognition, he is at the heart of it all (along with a few others).

Marco Tardelli was World Class back in the day, Marchisio is also today and only those at Marchisio's level can be compared to Tardelli's level. With Tardelli confirming that Marchisio is stronger and can be better, just makes Marchisio look better than he already is.

Im so happy Marchisio has found this form.. We all hoped so dearly he had it in him, but seing him from the past seasons to now just makes me so proud. he really is world class and we have all seen him become it

I'm very excited about Marchisio right now, he's always been one of my favorites. In the past I had to defend him, but it's all paying off. He's proving everyone his worth and his comparison to Marco Tardelli is just what he needed, and now as you said Marchisio is one of the best and we've seen it happening.

As I already mentioned previously, Marchisio is the next Marco Tardelli, only better. And now Tardelli himself has confirmed this to be true.

I watched Tardelli play and I can honestly say that Marchisio can do things Tardelli could never do. Marchisio is gifted offensively and can score like an attacking midfielder. Tardelli could never do this. Tardelli was a beast as a defender though, so that is something that Marchisio may never live up to.

But overall Marchisio is a more compete player than Tardelli and if he continues his current form for the next few years than he will ultimately become a Juventino legend.

Marchisio is definitely world class right now. He is one of the top central defenders in the world. World class to me is being top 5 at your position, and so Marchisio qualifies on that basis. Xavi, Pirlo and Xabi are registas and so cannot compare. Iniesta is a good comparison as is De Rossi. Marchisio is just a notch below them but is still top 5 in the world at his position.
