More professional, more organized, more players, more possibilities. Means on average yes.

Athletic yes. Skilled or mentally prepared? Not sure about that, too hard to find out the validity of that.

I think they are more skilled tbh.

The game is faster, any bad touch instantly means you lost the ball.

I think your skill level has to be better than ever purely because there are better athletes. Its hard to prove, but I do believe that.

There is no question there is more athletism now, no question. Especially so with the average player.r Average player is much moe athletic than the average player years. Also let us compare say Lee Dixon, Tony Adams, Martin Keown and Nigel Winterburn purely on an athletic standpoint to basically any back 4 of a top team now. Its complete different.

I think there are less players who rely purely on skill though, and some of types tend to struggle in certain games...like Cassano. I think someone like him would of been an ever better player like 20 years ago.

When I look at Cassano...I always think of Garrincha (not in terms of level)....obscenely talented players who relied mostly on their god-given (or whoever you pray or dont pray to) ability

Regarding skills and mental preparation today and the past are the same.


Physically you can only go so far, there's a limit. But the average football player does have a better preparation physically. Still, not everyone has the physical culture and preparation that Cristiano Ronaldo has nowadays. Take into account that that kind of physical atributes doesnt work on every player. Back in the day there were even less though.
