Who Are The Top Five Players Of The Last Ten Years?
Creating a thread here after ages. This is not about starting any kind of debate. All I am interested in is collecting opinion.
It's pretty much set in stone that the top two are Messi and Cristiano. Although a very small minority of us may not agree with that assessment even starting a discussion about it may not be worth it.
My interest here is in knowing who people place as #3, #4 and #5. I am not defining any criteria as people tend to have their own ways of judging and deciding.
From my side I list Xavi, Iniesta and Pirlo.
Thanks in advance to anyone who shares his list on this thread.

Re: Who Are The Top Five Players Of The Last Ten Years?
In no order
Messi - the best player of this generation. Can be motm 40m away from goal.
Xavi - the most most dominant MF in the histroy of the game. No surprise SPain collpased once he stopped being available for passes. The most specialised player in the history of the game. Dominated every MF and big games for almost 5 years. Consistency wise, I will never see anyone of his ilk again. The ultimate support player
Iniesta - Inconsistent throughout the year but applies his talent at the biggest stage. The biggest big game performer of this generation. MOTM in WC final, EURO final, CL final and COpa final.
Suarez - The best #9 of this generation
CR - Started off as a flair player, became a more effective finisher whilst compensating for his loss of Athleticism. His peak performance was never the best, but he has done it for so long that you simply cannot talk about him.

Re: Who Are The Top Five Players Of The Last Ten Years?
5 players is not enough. the number 6 or 7 is also great Worth mentionning. Personnaly here are the names that comes to my mind.
Messi-Cr7- XavIniesta(equal)-Suarez/Robben- followed in no order by Alves,Ramos, Ibra,Eto'o,Pirlo, Puyol. I'd stop there but Kaka is worth mentionning and Henry and Ronaldinho I didn't consider them because after 2007 they were past their primes.

Re: Who Are The Top Five Players Of The Last Ten Years?
All, thanks for the replies.
I didn't include Ronaldinho because his best was before mid 2006. Still no problems if someone wishes to include him.
Also no problems with playing positions. I didn't include any goal keepers and defenders but if someone feels one or more of them stood out that much then would really like to hear their names. In fact the name closest to my list is probably that of Buffon.
While I had a top five in mind if someone wishes to go for a longer list then no problem with that.

Re: Who Are The Top Five Players Of The Last Ten Years?
Consistency
Big game performances
Trophies
Skill Level
Longevity
These 5 factors you'd have to consider before making this list. And it depends on what factors you put more emphasis on. Personally i'd put a lot of emphasis on consistency and longevity because 10 years is a long stretch.
My top 5 would be :
Messi
Cristiano
Xavi
Buffon
Iniesta

Honestly that is not a bad decade. Some if not all of those names could/should be considered some of the greatest of all time.

Re: Who Are The Top Five Players Of The Last Ten Years?
1. Messi. Best footballer in the history of the game. He, like the greats before him, Di Stefano, Pele, Cruyff, Maradona, Ronaldo etc. is capable of looking on a whole, different level compared to other elite players. When he steps up his game, he significantly outshines with ease Neymar and Suarez, let game changers, two of the best players in the world.
2. CR. One of the best second strikers of all time. Technically not among the best, but at his peak he was a dominant force, one of the most dangerous players I've seen in the box. Quick, two footed, great header and the best off the ball movement I've ever seen.
3. Xavi. Best midfield general of all time. Like jibers said between 08 and 12 he dominated every midfield he played against. Not the most spectacular as I'd rather watch Pirlo but inhumanly effective and consistent
4. Kaka. The ultimate counter attack player.
5. Pirlo. Right behind Xavi and Zidane for me when in comes to MF

You wrote exactly what I think.
Also, I think Ibra deserves a mention. Never seen a football player to score so many spectacular goals.

Last 10 years?
Messi, Ronaldo, Kaka, Xavi and Iniesta. Kaka was a beast back 10 years ago, and Xaviesta was two of the cogs of one of the best ever teams, so they all have to be in it for me, and obviously Messi and Ronaldo have to be in it.

Re: Who Are The Top Five Players Of The Last Ten Years?
Xavi, Iniesta, Pirlo, Lahm, Sergio Ramos in no particular order.
The question needs to be more specific as it's too broad. While the OP mentions mehssi and cristiano as a lock, International performances should be seriously considered and not ignored. Mehssi and Cristiano who despite his EURO 2016 performance are disqualified by default for me. you're telling me y'all just gonna ignore from 2006 to 2015 shit performances with the NT/lack of international football titles? Suarez shouldnt even be in this discussion, full stop. And mehssi is 1/4 the player he is without being handheld by xaviniesta.
What a joke.

Messi, Ronaldo, Robben, Xavi, Iniesta in that order. Suarez maybe ahead of a couple of them to be honest if not for his disciplinary record he would be held in much higher esteem.

The criteria you listed are very much on the lines of what I too had in mind. No wonder our lists are so similar.

Just to clarify what I meant was that I expect Messi and Cristiano to be in most lists but that does not mean one cannot make lists without them. It's totally up to you. For me also international performances mean a lot but Messi and Cristiano have crazy super-human levels of consistency which I cannot ignore.

Re: Who Are The Top Five Players Of The Last Ten Years?
MESSI - This ones obvious (the greatest player of his generation)
CRISTIANO RONALDO - This ones obvious (the greatest goal scorer of his generation)
XAVI - the greatest midfield general of his generation
IBRAHIMOVIC - a close call between him and henry, but I personally prefer ibra because of his playing style. Once players of thesame tier have similar performances like this, I tend to choose the more creative one out of them as they seem to be very useful on the pitch even if they might score a lesser amount of goals. Anyone would have gone for henry here but tbh, henry had his best performances between 2001 - 2006, while ibra was at his best between 2008 - currently.
I like ball players/creative type players more tbh even if they might score less but they make the game worth remembering.
KAKA - the ultimate counter attacking player. Probably one of the best counter attacking players of all time, along with R9, henry and CR7.
His 2007 CL campaign remains one of the most dominant tournament/seasons of all time along with Maradona 86, Messi (seasons 10, 11, 12) and R9 (seasons 1996, 1997, 1998) and henry (season 04, 05)
