Re: League of Legends
Play consistently well, I always hear a lot of complaints from people who say they do extremely well in their games etc. when they haven't been playing consistently well. If you lose a lane at a certain elo, and it's not a hard-counter then you basically just lost to someone you thought you were better than, catch my drift?
If you're sorely looking to gain elo (and imo, the stress above 1500 is just not worth it, I only tryharded because right around the time I wanted to buy J4 Riot announced the season 1 rewards which was J4 + Skin for getting 1875+ Elo, and then Riot lowered the reward requirement -.-) then the best way is to become an expert at 1-3 heroes and all their laning match-ups and I recommend that to be Jungle/Solo. Ranged AD and Support depend too much on their laning partner, and you're also the lowest level in game so it's much harder to carry from either, even though support is the most game-changing role you're reliant on your team-mates to actually know what their doing. No point in slowing the enemy tankydps/assassin going for one of your carries if your carris don't know how to kite etc.

Re: League of Legends
Nope, unless you're a hipster and don't want to play the most popular PC game that's made eSports legit in the west. The only thing that hinders your entry over time is new champion additions adding to the extensive knowledge required to be good at this game - imo this game is 80% knowledge/strategy and 20% mechanical skill. You will have to study if you want to get good/competitive with this game.
My first piece of advice is to just have fun and find a group of friends to play/learn the game with. The 2nd piece of advice and the #1 rule is that every death is your fault, and it's your responsibility to find out why you died. (The exception to this rule is pro/semi-pro level play). This bleeds into not getting bothered by a win/loss since you're going to end up losing around half anyway. Unless you're playing in a team format the only thing that should matter to you is if you did well or not and why.

Re: League of Legends
This game is like the teletubby version of DOTA,made to appeal to a younger generation of players with its noobsafe mechanics and overall graphic theme. I played back during the beta phase, my experience of the game was underwhelming.
1st Since i live in South Africa and the only available servers at the time were in the US i played with a ping of 300+.
2nd The map was too small for my liking, it forced way too much action early in the game than it should, which meant you hardly had time to farm up or position yourself, good if want fast paced action.
3rd The concept of buying better items or lvl'ing characters using one's own money just completely turned me away from the game. The great thing about Dota is/was that at each game everyone starts of equal. Only thing separating you from other players was skill.
4th Dota & Dota 2 is better

Re: League of Legends
Phritz pls carry me pls
Jk
Anyway I have been playing this game for quite a while (2 years to be exact) and my only issue in LoL is some of the community players. Countless promotion games being thrown because player x stole player y's blue, or the player dced/afk. I even had guys trolled because player X didn't get Aegis ffs
I've been stuck on Silver for quite a while, I mainly solo queue and get paired with retards. Not saying I don't make mistakes, just that its impossible for me to climb the ladder with guys breaking the barriers of the meta and going jungle Soraka

juveman17 wrote:Thanks for the advice guys and what is DOTA 2?
well DOTA 1 was a Warcraft mod that started this genre of gaming... DOTA 2 was made by valve as a standalone to complement other free games like Team Fortress2. It uses the same basic players and are still in beta, but it looks like once they get all the players from DOTA 1 it will exit beta testing and you will be able to download it yourself without having to sign up or get a key.

Re: League of Legends
I jungled Soraka quite a few times during the patch when red-buff was applied to single targets and won a large majority of those games. Anyways what's wrong with Silver? Counting in those who only play normals that's pretty much the top 25%, people frustrated about their rating forget just how bad people are at League.
@Rossoneri comparing LoL and DotA is like comparing C&C and Starcraft or Baldurs Gate and Morrowind. Same genre but completely different games. Since you've barely played one during its development phase how are you judging it accurately? The (ex) #1 HoN player, a game which is even more intensive mechanically couldn't break into the pro scene despite switching to earn more money than in HoN. He ended up just streaming. Was the game too nooby for him?
LoL never was pay2win. I don't know how that got ingrained in you :S

But what exactly do you do in DOTA ? I've never heard of the game before

Re: League of Legends
Actually AotS started the genre and DotA was just the most popular of this map type in Warcraft III because it was Warcraft III for noobs who couldn't handle controlling more than one unit. See what I did there Ross?
The fundamentals of DotA, DOTA 2, LoL, Smite and HoN:
There are two bases with three lanes leading to eachother. Every 30 seconds a wave of minions spawns for each base for each lane and meet in the middle for a perpetual fight. It is up to the players to upset that balance and destroy the enemy HQ in a 5v5 situation. Each player controls a single unit of their choosing like a single unit RTS (3rd person/MMO for Smite) with several different abilities and you level up and earn gold to buy items like an RPG.
Teletubby DotA eh?

Because people want to think their personal choice is best, for reference see Xbox vs. PS, Android vs. iOS etc.

Re: League of Legends
Oh and don't get fooled by the similar premise - they play out completely differently. Even HoN has shifted in style since they fired Icefrog (map developer of DotA Allstars 6.xx and lead for DOTA 2, Guinsoo was the developer of 5.xx and handed off DotA Allstars to Icefrog to make League of Legends)
