Was 2010 Porto better then 2011 Chelsea?????
There has been a ton of negative press about AVB and Chelsea, and this thread really is not anti-Chelsea in the least bit but more pro-AVB. I have been wondering what the reason's are that Chelsea are in the slump they are in and why AVB seems to be a failure and it's really very simple.
Last years PORTO team is better then Chelsea, point blank. They are better suited for AVB's system and I might get killed for saying this but IMO they just have better players for the first 11. Chelsea is way deeper but going first 11 to first 11 that Porto team was deadly. I want people to understand that I would never say that Falcao is a better player then Drogba over there career's but RIGHT NOW he is and so are most of the players in that Porto team.
I think we just take it for granted that Chelsea is a major step up, and it is job wise and they have bigger names in there squad but IMO they at this point in there careers they are not better then that Porto team not to mention they are not suited to AVB's system and thats where the disconnect is.
I know I will take some heat for saying this and again I don't want it to come off as Anti-Chelsea because I'm not. But I just hope everyone remembers how deadly that Porto team was and how we were looking forward to them in Europe if they could keep Falcao and Hulk together to see what they could do.

Agreed. Their depth ain't too bad, either. They have a lot of good youngsters who can fill in nicely and know the system. James and Cristian Rodriguez, Defour etc.

Wow, OK I thought I was going to get crushed.
Then why doesn't AVB get more of a pass until he can get the players in there he wants and do you think he will ever even be given the opportunity to buy "his" players and shape the team to "his" system?

huge fan of Álvaro Pereira. Seems like he could slot in anywhere left side of the pitch. I can see him excelling anywhere else he decides to go ...post Porto career.

well for one they had a regular goal scorer and if you plan to win games, scoring goals is pretty important i would think.....
plus their defence was eons and eons better than Chelsea's
plus they had a midfielder who could CREATE good chances....
and they had Freddy Guarin who is just insanely underrated
lol i donno tho, maybe its just me

All the Chelsea threads are getting a bit tiresome to be honest. Everyone knows we're in awful form including the most delusional Chelsea supporter out there but it takes more than just a few months to rebuild a side that has been playing a certain style of football for the past 7 or 8 years.

If anyone were in doubt before this proves Chelsea are a big club.....
Anytime neutral's that care this much about a club's well being prove this......
I personally dont care for them and hope we beat them in a couple of weeks but its getting a bit obsessive.....
Not aimed at anyone in particularly btw just in general.

I think everyone agrees with you there about taking time to re vamp the team, at least I do, but what about the topic of the post? If your tired of the Chelsea threads try being a Barca or Madrid supporter and were winning.
Also, you don't have to post here if you don't want to as this was not a thread to bash Chelsea it was a thread to support AVB and see if people thought that he is being treated unfairly as the media just assumes since he took over the Chelsea job he has a better team to work with.

Unfairly treated as in people bashing him without giving him enough time to develop a team suitable to these tactics? Yes, I agree.

Yes, exactly. Like I said I think the media and a lot of other people jut assumed that he was taking over a much better team because the Chelsea job is better then the Porto one and plus most EPL fans probably never saw Porto play last year enough to realize they were one of the best teams in Europe playing in a weaker league.
Not only does he need 5 or 6 new players but he has to solve the Torres problem which may be unsolvable and teach an very english centric backline to play very un English with a high pressing line. I think it would be counterproductive to just go back to the way they used to play as they need to move forward sooner or later and enter a new era with a new core of players.
IMO this is way to much to dump on AVB and still expect him to win trophies as well, it's extremely hard to rebuild a team on the fly and this is part of the reason that SAF gets so much credit IMO.

Well said. Apologizes for mistaking your thread earlier.
He has a big task in hand. I really hope Roman knew what he got into when he made the decision to completely change our style by appointing Villas-Boas. We would be lucky to win the PL (forget the CL) in three years' time. That would in no way be a disaster seeing what the fruits of this hard work would be, but all that matters is how Roman feels about it. I'm willing to believe that he can change from the 'win, win and win' mentality for something which we obviously need to change, but who knows what's going on in his head.

I think a lot of questions will be answered in January when you see if Roman will lay out the cash for more players and if he will let AVB "shop for the groceries" to mold his team.
If he buy's 1 or 2 players and they are clearly Roman purchases then the writing is on the wall for AVB.

Ppl need to get off AVBs back. The man is probably attempting the hardest project in top flight ATM. Everyone is in crisis nowadays. United are in crisis, Chelsea and city.... People need to calm down...

We're in a similar situation (With the added issue of actually being behind our main competitors in terms of depth and quality) but that didn't exactly stop you from criticising Liverpool after a single game though, did it?Gil wrote:All the Chelsea threads are getting a bit tiresome to be honest.
